“Tell It to My Heart” is a song performed by American singer Taylor Dayne, released as her first single from her first album of the same name in late 1987. The single was Dayne’s first major exposure, and she soon became known for her up-tempo, dance-oriented music.

The song was written by Chappell Music staff songwriter Seth Swirsky and Ernie Gold. Swirsky almost didn’t deliver the song to his publisher after he and his girlfriend decided it was not good enough.

“Tell It To My Heart” reached Taylor Dayne when Dayne contacted Chappell Music and asked to be sent some demos which had been overlooked, although the song had been recorded in early 1987 by Louisa Florio for a self-titled Canadian album release. Dayne recalled feeling an immediate affinity with the song: “I thought there was something about the hook – it’s a happy hook.” The track was recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, Long Island. The track took off so unexpectedly in the fall of 1987 that Taylor was forced to complete her debut album at Cove City Sound in six weeks. Swirsky would also write, along with Arnie Roman, Dayne’s follow-up single “Prove Your Love”. For almost two months, only the 12-inch record of “Tell It to My Heart” with four mixes was available for purchase. That 12-inch sold 900,000 copies alone.

Dayne was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal, Female for her performance on “Tell It to My Heart” in 1988. Producer Ric Wake said in a 1994 interview with Vibe magazine that Tell It To My Heart “really blew people away”. Commenting on Taylor Dayne’s voice he said “They thought she was, like, black or some kind of ethnic…”.

“Tell It to My Heart” appeared in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 the week of 14 November 1987, rising to #39 from #43. Ten weeks later, during the week of January 23, 1988, the single peaked in the number seven spot. The song was on the Hot 100 for 26 weeks. The song was also a top five dance hit in the U.S. reaching #4.

In the UK, “Tell It To My Heart” reached #3. It was ranked as the 23rd best-selling single of 1988 in the UK.

In 1995, “Tell It to My Heart'” was remixed and re-released to promote Dayne’s Greatest Hits package. This version climbed to #23 on the UK Singles Chart.

“Chamber Of Hellos” is the debut single by American New wave/Alternative Rock band from San Francisco Wire Train.

In June 1983, Wire Train signed to the local 415 Records label, also home to acts like Translator, Red Rockers and Romeo Void, all of which found themselves with national distribution when 415 entered into a deal with Columbia Records.

Wire Train’s debut album, In a Chamber, produced by David Kahne at The Automatt in San Francisco, was released late in 1983. It achieved success on the U.S. college charts during 1984, and the band toured as openers for Big Country.

In the U.S. the single was relesd on 12″ with “I’ll Do You” both tracks remixed by Ivan Ivan.

Duran Duran – Girls On Film (Night Version) (UK 12″)

Twenty years ago today we lost Diana Princess Of wales. She often said that her favorite band was Duran Duran. This ones for you Diana.

“Girls on Film” is the third single by Duran Duran, released on 13 July 1981.

The single became Duran Duran’s Top 10 breakthrough in the UK Singles Chart, peaking at Number 5 in July 1981. The band personally selected the song for release following the failure of its predecessor, “Careless Memories”, which had been chosen by their record company, EMI. Its popularity provided a major boost to sales of the band’s eponymous debut album, Duran Duran, which had been released a month earlier.

The song did not chart in the United States on its initial release, but it became popular and widely known after receiving heavy airplay on MTV when the Duran Duran album was re-issued in 1983.

The song begins with a recording of the rapid whirring of a motor drive on a camera. Both manager Paul Berrow and photographer Andy Earl claim to have supplied the camera for the recording.

Over the years, “Girls on Film” has become a staple of the encores for Duran Duran’s live performances and is often the final song of a concert, during which lead singer Simon Le Bon introduces the rest of the band.

The song, along with “Rio”, was originally omitted from the 1984 live album Arena to make room for newer and less familiar album material from 1983’s Seven and the Ragged Tiger. Both tracks were included as bonus material in the 2004 CD reissue of Arena.

The b-side of the single was another song initially unavailable anywhere else, a synthesiser-heavy dance track called “Faster Than Light”.

“Letters To A Friend” is the debut single by electronic music duo from North London. The band consisted of David Baker and Simon Leonard.

In 1984, the duo was signed by Mute and released its debut single, the quirky “Letters to a Friend.” “Letters to a Friend” easily distinguished itself from the glut of synthesizer-laden records from the mid-’80s with Baker’s distinctly British talk-sing style and the psychedelic feel of the keyboards. The single was produced by British producer and founder of Mute Records Daniel Miller.

I Start Counting gained a significant cult following in the U.K. and the U.S., especially among American suburban teens who were discovering Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk in dance clubs.

In 1985 the duo released their debut album My Translucent Hands.
