Steve Parsons & Babel – The Howling (Germany 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

-DjPaulT Recommended 12″

“The Howling” is a song taken from the film and soundtrack Howling II: … Your Sister Is a Werewolf (1985). The film features a sequence in which little-known new wave band Babel play their song “The Howling”. Babel were: Stephen W. Parsons (lead singer); Chris Pye (guitar); Simon Etchell (keyboard); Steve Young (drums). Three of these musicians later played in another band, State Project. Etchell composed the theme for UK TV show Catchphrase as well as many other TV signature tunes and later the soundtrack for the movie Vanished (2009).

The Howling ‘Making Flesh Creep Mix’ is exactly the same recording as the ‘Club Mix’ featured in the soundtrack lp, but with an additional 31 seconds intro of sampled growls, grumbles and flute effects.

Another cool track to play on Halloween Night, Paul.
There were many great themes in the 1980’s for movies, especially horror.
One song I loved was Amityville (The House On The Hill) by Lovebug Starski in 1986 (don’t remember it on any soundtrack, but great tune), love the Capatain Kirk dialogue, another great pop tune not belonging to a film was Michael Jackon’s Thriller, even though that long video was like a mini horror movie. Duran Duran’s Nightboat video had a zombie style to it.

Paul, you really make the “season of the witch” such a thing to look forward to all year!! You always bring out the unexpected song to fill up a Halloween playlist that’ll bring smiles and delight to dancers everywhere. I am so thrilled that you give us something to really sink our fangs into!! The Howling series of movies were very good and it’s incredible there was a song that had a 12-inch mix to. I’m loving this already and I haven’t even heard the thing.

Thank you Paul and have a phenomenal weekend!!

Jeff
