Renegade Soundwave – C.S. (Sex Mixes) (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

“Cocaine Sex” was the second single released by the electronic music group. Formed in London in 1986, Renegade Soundwave. The single was released on Mute Records subsidiary Rhythm King in 1987.

Renegade Soundwave applied the punk and industrial ethic to both dub and dancefloor electronica, in good company with fellow sound terrorists throughout the decade, from Cabaret Voltaire to Skinny Puppy and Meat Beat Manifesto.

The group consisted of Gary Asquith, Danny Briottet, and Carl Bonnie.

As a further note: The versions of “Cocaine Sex (Sub-Aqua Overdrive Dub)” and “Bonus Porno Beats” on the subsequent 1992 CD single re-release, are noticeably sped-up and, consequently, shorter than they appear here.

Japan – Life In Tokyo (UK 12″ Ltd. Edition)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1979

“Life in Tokyo” is a song by the British band Japan. A collaboration with disco producer Giorgio Moroder, who also co-wrote the song with David Sylvian, it marked a change of direction from the bands previous sound. Originally released as a single in 1979, it was reissued twice before it finally became a hit on The UK Singles Chart in 1982.

The song was written by Giorgio Moroder and band vocalist David Sylvian. The musical style is in line with Moroder’s electronic disco style as already employed on albums by Donna Summer, Munich Machine and on his own From Here to Eternity in 1977. Moroder’s trademark arpeggiated synthesiser can be heard throughout the track.
