BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987
“Still a Thrill” was the second single from singer Jody Watley’s self-titled debut album.
While the #56(US) peaking “Still a Thrill” didn’t necessarily match the pop chart success of its blockbuster predecessor, “Looking for a New Love”, it was, however, a major hit on both the R&B and dance charts in 1987. Watley employed a deep lower register on this uptempo R&B / dance song, which she co-wrote. It was produced by Andre Cymone and David Z.
Internationally “Still A Thrill” reached #46 New Zealand and #77 U.K..

Thank you very much for this one Paul! Love it.

My absolute favorite Jody Watley song. Thank you!
Thanks very much for this 12″, Paul.
This is my favourite Jody Watley song together with the Morales Mix of I’m the one or the jazzy version of Lookin for a new love on one of her albums. Though I’m sure I’ve forgotten to think of one or two other favourite Watley songs.
Anyway…got to hear the mixes now. Thanks once again!
Paul, I literally gasped when I saw that you posted this. Wow, THANK YOU! You literally made my day. This is amazing! I absolutely LOVE this song. I cannot wait to listen to the Extended Version. You are simply the best. THANK YOU!!!
You’re very welcome MusiMan3 I really hope you enjoy these mixes 🙂
Again, I do not recall ever listening to this song. Checking on wikipedia I was very surprised that only three of Jody´s singles entered the German charts (Looking For A New Love 25, Real Love 15, Friends 45). Quite unbelievable. Listening to the awesome a cappella mix right now, which really is a dub appella, I thank you for introducing me to a great song by a great singer.
YOU, dear Paul, are still a thrill 🙂

You’re welcome Song_and_Dance. Billboard Magazine ranked Jody Watley one of Greatest Dance Club Artists of All Time in 2016. She has had 20 charting dance singles in the U.S including seven at #1. Along with 6 top ten singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Jody was also part og the group Shalamar. Truly an incredible artist who is still recording and touring.
Hey Paul
I know Jody, of course. I just didn´t know “Still A Thrill”. I have all the twelve inches from “Looking For A New Love” to “I´m The One You Need” with the exception of “Everything” (hm… do I know that one?) and “Still A Thrill”. You filled another one of my many gaps. Thanks you again. And thank you for the background info. Thumbs up 🙂
And what a thrill this is Paul! Anything by Ms. Watley is an event in my book. She is incredible. I think it’s great of you ripping this one for a BTG family member who mentioned this awhile back. You always deliver in some way a request and all. It’s so worth the wait because once it hits your site, we can all rest assured that the quality is going to be beyond fabulous!!

Some fun edits on this one Jeff. Enjoy 🙂
Ah, YES!!! Edits really get me going that’s for sure. This is such a sexy jam, like something Prince would have wrote during a nocturnal emission!! Well, after all, André Cymone and David Z. are involved, so I totally get it! I can see some erotic dance moves taking place while this one plays. Even the edits almost have that sound of “pelvic percussions” during steamy coitus. This tune really gets me…HOT!!
Many thanks!
Jeff
Prince ! Yes. My first thought on the first beat.
Oh the mind drifts of on the almost instrumental…
Might there be a volt with a demo with a low voice murmuring phrases like these, but with a slightly drunkfromlastnightbut very passionate Madonna breathing loudly in the background..?
Greg mixmaster gee did the edits for still a thrill extended version and radio edit on this 12″ single truth be told
