I am the woman who sang ‘Baby Doll’,Kimberley Ames,The girls they used for a cover of the record album never sang one word of Baby Doll..I went through a lengthy law suit with both Sire Records and Virgin and won both cases..I recorded this record with Colin Campsie in London at Rooster Studios in 1982. Katie Lynn,I thought, was a friend of mine. she called me to do backup vocals for her band but when I got to the studio none of the girls could sing so Colin asked me to sing the song, I did..Then Colin puts the three… Read more »

I just saw this and I wanted to say that I loved your performance on the record. I’m so sorry how things did work out, but this was a record I adored way back when. I get so excited when Paul brings back favorite songs. I also enjoy the feedback of those who were involved in some way during the creation of the music. Thank you for sharing your story.

Fantastic post, Paul. I remember listening to this song on the radio just a few times but never forgot it. I just couldn’t believe when I saw it here.
Thank you very much.

Can’t recall this one, decent production. The instrumental is far the better mix of this two, it becomes pretty addictive after a few plays! The basslines has a very strong reminiscence of Imagination. songs.

Hey GGNYC!! I could never forget Paco!! He is the one credited to naming Tony Moran and Albert Cabrera, The Latin Rascals!! I’ll always remember when Paco used to say: “It’s ten after four and Paco brings you more. The Latin Rascals, you know what I’m talking about.” Such memories, and like you said, 92KTU was the source for introducing so many dance music genres to its audience’s ears. I thank my lucky stars because of DjPaulT and his Burning The Ground website as Paul has a legacy of posting music that was played on 92KTU plus so much more.… Read more »

This is where I heard it too, GGNYC. 92KTU was such an influence to me and I believe, the Industry as well. Coming out of “Disco 92” I thought Carlos De Jesus was very much responsible for tuning and turning on to New Wave and progressive genres. This record just has this cool vibe to it. I think I remember them mixing into Tana Gardner’s “Heartbeat” on their mix shows. Paul is so great because he brings back lost “cult classics” to Burning The Ground. I so hope more people can come on board and enjoy this way cool single.… Read more »

I was 14 back then and I remember 92KTU and their mixing sessions. I love the way you put it poetically and so true. Different sounds of music was coming in from all directions and 92KTU somehow managed to make dance music survive. The DJs were great taking chances playing songs, NYC underground, mainstream, and music overseas like Italo Disco and so forth. It was incredible. More like or better than Sirius XM radio..ahead of their time. I am proud living the era and I appreciate the share with fans who can contribute to this site. DJ Paul is a… Read more »

Thank you Paul, this was one song I sought for a long time. There were two versions to this song and I didn’t know which version I heard on the radio back on 1983 New York radio station 92KTU. Great year for music. Wonderful post!! Cheers!

These are the posts I prefer the most. When the stuff is totally new to me. Never heard about this band before. It makes me think of Bananarama. Thank you Paul for introducing me to “Girls Can’t Help It”.

I have their EP but I didn’t know this song was issued as a freestanding single. Thanks so much for sharing.

What a sumptuous surprise Paul!! Ah, sigh!! I haven’t heard “Baby Doll” in years. It was such a staple on New York radio at the time and was a definite favorite because I bought the 12-inch myself. I do know that certain folks in the Netherlands enjoyed the song as well. Gee, Mark Kamins did the mix and it was on Sire, my ultimate favorite record label. You really touched me bringing this one back. Many thanks Paul for your exquisite tastes in music.
