BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987
Originally posted August 16th, 2010
“Mind Over Matter” single by American singer–songwriter E.G. Daily. The song was recorded in 1987 for the soundtrack to the movie Summer School starring Mark Harmon. “Mind Over Matter” debuted on the U.S. Billboard Dance Chart on September 12, 1987 spending nine weeks on the survey peaking at #7.
Debbie Harry recorded the track for the movie, but was not legally able to appear on the A&M soundtrack due to her own record company contracts with Chrysalis & Geffen, instead E.G. Daily was brought in to re-record the track.

Any chance of a reupload? I only have the dance mixed saved for some reason.
Hi Paul, it seems in the beginning of track 01 are cut off a few seconds. Is it possible?
No it is how the vinyl is. Thanks
Deborah Harry did a fine job on this one. E.G. should be thankfull for the chance to uhm make it uhm her uhm own..
But I like it this way, because the production suits E.G, much better.
Thank you. Do you have Lana Pellay “Pistol In My Pocket,” another early Phil Harding mix?

Thanks again!
Fun fact – the 7″ version was on Chrysalis instead of A&M. Ah, licensing……
think you’ve missed in your description that this is a work of S/A/W genius…!
Thanks DJPaul for this re-rip!
It sounds great.
… hoping for “Say it, say it”.
Regards.☺
I prefer Debbie´s version by far. Your re-rip, however, is of astonishing quality.
Thanks, Paul.
what a gem! any idea if the Debbie Harry version exists in any form anywhere at all? thanks, Paul.
I LOVE IT WHEN YOU DO THE RE-RIPS PAUL!!!!!! And this is the perfect choice too. Karen and I LOVE Ms. Daily. Loved her as Pee Wee’s girlfriend in the movies and, of course, as the voice of Buttercup in The Powerpuff Girls. Ooh, perfect song to have on a freezing and snowy day. We’re stuck at home listening to some New Wave classics and thinking of you too, Paul. Hey, thanks again for posting the Hot Track’s remix to this song awhile ago. I love that mix.
Hugs,
Jeff (and Karen)
I was watching “Better Off Dead” last night and got the idea to re-rip this one. She is a singer in the movie which has some great music in it by Rupert Hine. Always loved this song. I have a couple more of her singles that I will be posting along the way. Hope you guys are staying warm.
Hugs 🙂
Fun track. Much overlooked as an 80s synthpop song. 🙂
I agree Goodguy 🙂
Thanks Paul!
You’re welcome Marinho Alf 🙂
