“Kiss” is a 1986 single originally recorded by Prince and The Revolution.

An industrial cover of the song was released in November 1986 by British alternative rock-dance crossover band Age of Chance. Bass player Geoff Taylor described it as: “We basically removed the sex and replaced it with lump hammers.”

The single reached No. 1 on the UK Indie Charts in late 1986. It spent 11 weeks on the mainstream pop charts in the United Kingdom, starting at 6 December 1986 and peaking at No. 50 in early 1987.

In New Zealand it charted for four weeks, peaking at No. 21.

In the United States, it spent six weeks on the Billboard Dance Club Play chart, peaking at No. 35 on 23 May 1987.

I was very happy to see this one posted. I’ve had this one on vinyl for a long time but my rip doesn’t sound anywhere near as good. Thank you! If you ever want any more AOC vinyl let me know as I think I still have a lot stored away somewhere…

Thanks, Paul. I love Age of Chance and have been trying to find all of their 12″ singles/remixes in MP3 format for many years. Hard to find good quality versions, and only some of their singles have been officially re-released by Virgin in digital format. This is one of their biggest hits, and yet one of the singles I was still missing. So, I was delighted to find a good quality rip from you. Will be interested in the remixes too when you receive them. Also wanted to express my gratitude for all of the wonderful Prince-related music you’ve posted… Read more »

Great choice Paul. 🙂

Remember when bands could release experimental works and they’d still get in the charts? No glossiness here! But a unique charm and original sound nonetheless.

BTW, I could be wrong, but I think you may have the front cover the wrong way round? Should it not be rotated 90* Clockwise? (Look at the eye/star graphic and compare to the one on the back).

When it came out, this version was played all day long on the local Indie radio station!
It’s an awesome version, just like the original or the AON & Tom Jones version. It’s an unbreakable song for all times.

A huge fan of this cover. When I found it in a discount bin back in 1987 I was shocked that no-one had bought it. Snapped it up and listened to it constantly. Except I’ve got the Sonic Crush Symphony remix. It’s truly twisted!

Man, do I feel like I received a Huge audio HUG from you dear Paul!! Because of you and the community here, I got to check out this record in the first place on youtube and immediately fell in love with it. I actually like it — dare I say it in the first place — better than Prince’s original version. It kicks major butt and the vocals reminds me a little of Marc Almond when he sang crazily in the early days of Soft Cell. Paul, you kick major butt yourself with bringing these fantastic pieces out from the… Read more »
