Hello again, Paul!

Two or three times a year, I have to return to BTG for my 80s fix. This is “day 2” of my 2020 sojourn to BTG where I refuel and take stock of all the years, good and bad.

After all, I couldn’t think of going anywhere but right here @ BTG, to remember some of the best years of my life.

Your body of work, so detailed and precise, is a thing of beauty.

Thanks very much Paul, for maintaining your immaculate archive, and for sharing it with all your online friends.

I’m pretty partial to the “Wonderous Mix” of it, too; I think it was a Trevor Horn mix? It isn’t clearly credited on the 1991 reissue single. It’s very of that era — part chill out balearic, abstracted and mellowed.

Thanks for this – I’d forgotten all about the edited version. I have the UK 12″ but haven’t been able to play it for years.

Although the Red and Blue Mix wasn’t included on the 90125 remaster, you can get it on a Klub80 compilation:

I’ve come across this before. I know it was only early 80’s but what I wonder what it was doing on the A side? To me it sounds like a weird dub mix. It’s called a dance remix of sorts but where are the words? To me I think it would have been best to simply do an extended mix on the A side and leave this as a B side track. 😀

Oh, i remember exactly. As a teenager during that time, this song brought me to “YES”, exploring and loving (most of) their music. Thank you for another memory.

Thank you Paul for this rip!!!

In my opinion is quite scandalous that those super producers released such cheap and poor pseudo remix of this amazing song.

I found here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6iPBjwgTqs

a REAL extended version based on original multi tracks tapes.
Listen.

i love that the art of noise influence thanks to trevor horn is cool with this, but not to everyone’s taste.

there are plenty of fanmixes on youtube using the multitracks for people that want a more regular remix of this song.

thanks again paul for putting up mixes that are radical for their times.

The fidelity of this album, and this song specifically, are a testament to making a song or album sound large. Like it was recorded in a plane hangar. Puts me in mind the entirety The Cult ‘Love’ and ‘I’ll Wait” by Van Halen.

THANK YOU!! I have this mix on the 12″ on tape released in the 80s, but my copy is totally worn and I was so disappointed the mix included on the reissued CD is not the same mix here. I’ve wanted an upgrade for years.

You made my Christmas. Thanks as always Paul!

Listen to this odd demo version of “Owner”.
In Trevor Horn´s own words the chorus was a hit record and the rest was crap 🙂

Trevor Horn is on record as saying the production on Owner Of A Lonely Heart is the work he’s proudest of. It certainly is excellently done with some superb musicianship on offer. Thank you, as always, Paul

Thanks DJPaul.
… but this special remix (7.48) is different from the extended remix (7.04)
that appears on the 2004 expanded & remastered “90125” CD?
Regards.

Wow, yeah this is a different mix than the remastered 90125 version.
Perhaps the USA 12″ pressings were different, or my memory of my old UK 12″ has gone.

Either that or they unearthed a different mix on the remastered version.

Awesome mix, awesome track.
Gary Langan & Horn at their best.

This is too cool Paul!! And such a bizarre version of the song as well. I used to play this all the time back when and got some interesting looks while the song played. Some of my friends thought it was a blasphemy doing this to “their Yes,” but I tried to tell them to appreciate the creativity behind the record. Horn and company did some cool things with the instrumentation and vocals. It is so Art Of Noise!! Well, I just love those horn blasts first heard in “Beat Box” that later wound up here. Oh Paul, you just… Read more »
