Thank you very much Paul.
great to hear this one again, thanks!
I can only assume “Message From My Baby” will be on its way soon..?
Produced by Bow Wow Wow bassist Leigh Gorman, and the “Never Trust A Hippy” mix was played by John Peel on his BBC Radio 1 show from the white label 12″, which I also received as I was on Tam Tam’s club DJ mailing list.
A great track! 🙂
In my cliques (?) this was popular from hearing it played, not from sleeves or videos. Played along Coldcut, Kruder and Dorfmeister, De La Soul, Talking Heads, Art Of Noise, at multi-style-parties (common then, now a gimmick). But mostly in the ‘smoking area’ or chill down lounges near dancefloors (remember the enormous houseparties were people mixed with eachother and danced, instead of standing nearly still looking at a dj with all hands in the air, one with a phone?). Weird vibes from lovely people with big eye pupils, mixed with staggering drunks, chatting with sober vegans in jute – and… Read more »
Thank you so much Paul! This song brought me right back to hearing it on ‘Beverly Hills 90210″ 😉
You’re welcome Blair Warner 🙂
Great single from a very strong album that didn’t get nearly as much acclaim as it should have.
I agree VanceMan 🙂
M wife is repulsed by this song, but I quite enjoy it. 😛 Thanks!
You’re welcome Mike.C. 🙂
I used to love this track, still do in fact. It got quite a few plays on one of my local radio stations that i worked for too.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome Mark 🙂
Had you asked how I liked that song I probably would have said, “The sleeve doesn´t ring a bell, I guess I don´t know the song.” Stupido me. Great song, so relaxed and groovy. The bassline is fantastic. This version could go on and on and on and on…..
Love it. And I love all three versions. Different but great.
Hope you are having a groovy blast listening to this one Song And Dance 🙂
I just love sampling especially when it is used creatively. When this song came out, I was jazzed about it using The Smith’s “How Soon Is Now.” The song was addictive, but that guitar line was awesome. Thanks for the flashback Paul!
Jeff
Bonus Beats: The guitar line was also used brilliantly on an excellent remix of Enigma’s “Sadeness Pt. 1” from a Rhythm Stick issue.
You’re welcome Jeff 🙂
Thanks, Paul! I remember this song quite well and have the USA cd single that has more mixes. This is one of those 1-hit wonders that I have absolutely no recollection of any of the lyrics. I find it interesting a song like this can be so hot for a brief moment and nobody ever hears it again. I don’t think I’ve heard this, literally, since the clubs in 1990. 🙂
I can only recall the chorus lol. It still gets an every now and then play on my local 80s station but usually only during countdown shows.
