INXS – Devil Inside (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

“Devil Inside” is a song by Australian band INXS. The song was written by Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence and is one of INXS’s best known songs.

It was released as a single in February 1988. The song was most successful in the US, going to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks, held out of the top spot by a combination of “Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car” by Billy Ocean and “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” by Whitney Houston. “Devil Inside” then went on to peak at #47 in the United Kingdom, #20 in France, #25 in Ireland and #6 in Australia.

Guitarist and saxophone player Kirk Pengilly stated in an interview that he did not like the music video for “Devil Inside,” because he thought that it was “too American.

The video was filmed in Balboa, California and directed by Joel Schumacher.

Fond memories of this track. I’ve never heard the remix, but if it’s here @ BTG, it’s got to be a good one, no?
Thanks, Paul!

Thank you, Paul, for your very own transfer of this mix. The 30th anniversary deluxe edition of “Kick” features this remix as a bonus track. However, it’s brick-walled to the extreme and sounds shrill. I’m using your own, dynamic transfer for my flash drive. Thank you!

This is my favorite INXS 12″ and I have all the 12″ releases from the album “Kick” as well as three others. I love the opening of the extended version with the opening guitar riff and the heavy bass drum. This is I think their best track even though it didn’t make #1 on any chart.

Thanks Paul for this rip.

It’s got a somewhat dark and heavy vibe. Great track. TY.

I love INXS and Devil Inside is my favorite song, thank you so much adding this. Could you please add: Never tear us apart and Guns in the Sky by INXS?

All my best, JB

This “pre-Simpsons” cover is very strange. Is it possible that Matt Groening was involved?

INXS is my favorite band after Duran Duran and the Devil Inside is one of the coolest songs they made. It is my favorite from the Kick album that’s for posting.

Thank you Paul for adding another INXS song to your site. It’s a great one to play around Halloween too! I just love these dance rock remixes you continually add to BTG. I’m very excited…IT’S SCARY!!!!
