BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987
“Wot’s It to Ya” was the third single taken from the self-titled debut from American pop singer, songwriter, producer, and guitarist Robbie Nevil. The single debuted on the Us Billboard Hot 100 on May 30, 1987, peaking at #10 on July 31, 1987 after spending sixteen weeks on the survey.”Wot’s It to Ya” also peaked at #42 on the UK singles chart. The track was produced by producers Alex Sadkin and Phil Thornalley.
After “C’est La Vie” was chosen as the lead single and all the tracks were cut, Nevil expected the rest of the album to be smooth sailing, but he was about to learn an important lesson from veteran producer Alex Sadkin (Duran Duran, Thompson Twins), which resulted in the last-minute addition of “Wot’s It to Ya”. Nevil told Songfacts: “He explained it to me: ‘Always come from the school of you don’t have your first single, and always try to the bitter end to come up with something even better.’
So ‘Wot’s It To Ya?’ is written at the end of the record with the idea of you still don’t have your first single, so write one more and try to hit it out of the ballpark. It didn’t end up being the first single, but that’s when and why we did it.”

does someone have a crush on robbie or something ?
No, you just got lucky I forgot to remove that folder 🙂
This was something I wanted very badly when it came out and wasn’t able to get it. Thanks for posting it! I now get to hear these mixes!
You’re welcome, Conner 🙂
Wow, I have never heard this track before. I think my knowledge of Robbie Nevil was just relegated to “C’est La Vie.” This is a great song and excellent 12″ mixes. I agree with Song And Dance, he does have a nice voice. Thanks for sharing this gem. I will be enjoying this one!
You’re welcome, MusicMan3 🙂
Great one, thanks so much Paul!!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound 🙂
I so do like his voice. He really had a great run with excellent songs and good 12inch remixes.
My favourite which maybe maybe we will be able to find here someday is “(Who Needs) Somebody Like You”.
Oh, and needless to say I LOVE the edidididits edidits idits 😉
Love his voice too 🙂
Wow Paul! Thanks a lot. We get a bunch of remixes here. You must have spent countless hours to rip all these. The Rusty’s dub mixes are new to me. I don’t think they made it on CD.
You’re welcome, Daniel 🙂
I am ready to strap on my seat belt and about to enjoy the ride!Thank you extremely Paul for this one. As an edit fanatic, my heart is beating out of my chest in anticipation of the multi-edits here! I’ve been a fan of Gail “Sky” King for years. She deserves so much credit and recognition for being one of the first — MAYBE THE FIRST– female editors amongst the boys club. She’s the Queen to the Edit-Kings!!!
Love this Paul and many, many thanks for EVERYTHING!!!!!
Jeff
I agree with you Jeff.
This record can be used for so many hooks and edits that one could make their own remix and still have it fill a dance floor. I have this record already in my personal collection.
To Paul, thanks for making this unique 12″ available. The dance mix is my of the entire single but they’re all good cuts.
You’re welcome Dj Veteran 🙂
Interesting that Gail did not do the edits on the best mixes on this 12″ the three Rusty Garner mixes are pretty edit heavy and done very well by Allen Perada.
Also Sheila e made the first female edits of pop life and sister fate
