Burning The Ground Exclusive 1987
Artist spotlight PSEUDO ECHO!
“Listening” is the debut single from Australian pop group Pseudo Echo. The song was originally released in November 1983 as the lead single from their debut album Autumnal Park (1984). The song peaked at number 4 on the Australian Kent Music Report.
Following the international success of “Funky Town”, a remixed version of “Listening” was released in 1987 for the movie “North Shore” starring Nia Peeples.
Additionally, the remixed 1987 version was not included on the Australian release of the album Love An Adventure but on the U.S. release.
++The remixes here are exclusive to the United States, and the “Dancing Berry Mix” is exclusive to this promo. I have posted the U.S. 12″ of “Listening” in the past (2017) which included all of the mixes here except the “Dancing Berry Mix” These are all 2024 new transfers.

I still have the 7” vinyl single of this release. Looking forward to these remixes, which i wasn’t aware of before.
Thanks Paul 🙂
Wow thanks for this Love An Adventure 12″ promo trifecta!! So many great mixes to enjoy. It seems to me if these labels wanted to do it right, they would contact you to do the vinyl transfers. There’s no excuse for sub-par vinyl rips coming from a major label. And they wonder why so many fans complain about the quality. If they’re looking to maximize their profit, why not do it right in the first place and keep fans happy? Same can be said about a lot of movie IP’s that give a slap in the face to loyal fans…… Read more »
You’re welcome, Retro Hound. Have a great weekend 🙂
You read my mind, Retro Hound. With Paul’s contacts through his ON-J assistance, I’d hope someone at a major label would contract his services for reissuing 12” singles. So many labels have lost master tapes with all of the consolidations they don’t bother to organize them, or even look for them. It’s more cost-effective to just do a bad vinyl rip
Exactly. They’re foolish not to contract with Paul. Anyone trying to cut corners and put out a compromised product is asking for trouble, not to mention a slap in the face to the loyal fans. Apparently they don’t realize that quality = profit.
That’s why I was so impressed with the CD series “so80s”, curated by Blank & Jones. In the SDE blog, Piet mentioned he found the original 12″ master for “Where Did Our Tainted Love Go” (my title, btw), and it hadn’t been opened since Sire first released it on 12” back in 1981. All others that are on every comp in the world were dubs, or taken from mp3s or who knows what dubious source! Yes, it takes time to go thru the archives, but if it weren’t for tape hounds like Bill Irwin, etc. they never would have stumbled… Read more »
I have so80s Presents Billy Idol, and their vinyl rip of Catch My Fall (Special Remix) sounds fantastic. Which shows they took care in their product. Unfortunately they are the exception. I can only imagine the disarray some of these studios are in. Which means they should hire special curators instead of taking shortcuts!
This may not be the place to post this, but every BTG follower should read these lengthy stories about the lackluster master tape storage scandal the record industry doesn’t want you to know about: The Day the Music Burned https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/11/magazine/universal-fire-master-recordings.html Labels Strive to Rectify Past Archival Problems – Bill Holland https://www.worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Billboard-Magazine.htm Billboard July 12, 1997 pt. 1 Billboard-1997-07-12 pg. 1, 88, 89 Billboard July 19. 1997 pt. 2 Billboard-1997-07-19 pg. 1, 98, 99 Bill Holland used to have this as a clean 22 page .pdf on his website, but for the life of me I cannot find it here at… Read more »
I’ve heard about those. What an absolute travesty! With no regard for what future demand might hold, they trashed everything. And Universal should have had their master recordings safely protected in a vault… So sad! All the more reason the music industry (I use that term loosely, as what’s left of it) should embrace DJ Paul’s mastering.
I love the so80s series because they source everything so meticulously! German efficiency, I suppose! Blank & Jones should hire DJ Paul for a new series of PERFECTLY RESTORED VINYL TRANSFERS for all the releases, for which they can’t find clean sources.
Agreed Martika!
And the Last One for now. Again made by Me. if you want to see works to older Uploads, please let me know.
I know how much time you must invest in these for displaying online metadata, or HD Radio metadata. A zoom-in of the song’s label is better than blank placeholders that I see all the time, which doesn’t contribute to possible sales. The US and the UK (and their former territories) are notorious for not having artwork for all their singles like Germany, Japan, The Netherlands, and other European countries.
It always depends on a brilliant idea and of course on the implementation or existing material. It’s not always possible to find something suitable online. the rest is craft. But I’m very happy if others like it too and might need the covers too.
It’s a shame that PaulT obviously doesn’t really care. So I’m not sure if I should/will post more work. At least he didn’t delete them.
Singing your praises once again, Paul!! This week has been monumental for so many of us! Truly grateful for your generosity and hard work slaving over these vinyl discs extracting perfection!
Have a very nice weekend, Paul!
You too, Song And Dance, Retro Hound, Martika, Daniel and all the rest!!
Jeff
Thank you, Jeff have a nice weekend 🙂
Hey Paul, isn’t there a longer version of this song in its original form? I really love the original and found something on Napster a long time ago, but it could be fake. I had the original American version on cassette that was just called “Pseudo Echo.”
wait, there is one- it’s the 5:10 version and the “Dub” is on there as well. PLEASE tell me you’re going to post that version! 🙂
I have never been able to find that 12″ in fact there have never been any sold on Discogs it contains the Steve Thompson & Michael Barbiero mix.
Since I believe they were L.A. based at one time, perhaps Amoeba Records will have one in their bins next time I’m up there. Pseudo Echo really never got alternative airplay here by this time like early KROQ Joqs would have given them.
Very nice one, thanks a lot. It seems all these versions appear on Love An Adventure but I look forward to your sound quality.
They are on the expanded edition but taken from sub-par vinyl rips.
That is why we have you. But really: if the recording companies embark on a reissue, why do they so often miss the opportunity to do it well once and for all?
I have been asking that question for a long time. It is all about money with the labels.
How is your experience with Cherry Records? They have remastered (or so they say) many good albums from the 80s and they seem to sound nice enough for me but I am no audiophile so not sure about the quality.
They are hit and miss some good some awful. I always try to read reviews before I buy.
Gosh I’m loving this Pseudo Echo goodness! Funny that they typo’d the “Side C.” Just mixed this version into a set last night. Sending warm wishes back at cha, DJ Paul. Cheers!
Very cool! Makes me wonder if it was originally going to be more than one record at some point.
