BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987
“It’s a Sin” is a song recorded by English synthpop duo the Pet Shop Boys which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in 1987, and was their third top ten in the US when it reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100.
In the U.K. a limited edition 12″ was released which included a remix by Ian Levine.
The b-side “You Know Where You Went Wrong (Rough Mix)” is a track the boys worked on with Shep Pettibone. The inspiration came from Chris Lowe: “He’d been walking through Covent Garden and there were two tramps in this doorway and one of them turned round to the other one and said, ‘well, you know where you went wrong’. For the ‘It’s A Sin’ limited 12” release, a ‘rough mix’ was released that features a speaking part by Helena Springs, who also sings backup vocal. This version has not appeared on any official CD.

The pet shop boys have been one of my favorite groups, since opportunities came out.
It’s a sin is a great single too, and has a lot of remixes available.
While this mix is very good, i prefer the Phil Harding mixes on the US version,
which Paul posted here : http://burningtheground.net/2013/03/pet-shop-boys-its-a-sin-us-12-2/
If you haven’t heard those other mixes yet, check those out.
Thanks paul for adding to the long list of their mixes.

La Warner e Parlophone ha pubblicato una versione deluxe della colonna sonora realizzata dagli Air.
Hola amigo te saludo desde Ecuador tu dispones de este archivo??
Hi Paul, I have been a great fan and follower of your work for a few years. Excellent rips all the time but this PSB rip has sudden drop in volume throughout the entire song. Maybe something is wrong with my hearing because no fan of yours seem to address this issue.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not nitpicking your work but I just wanted to share my experience.
I truly appreciate your work with utmost respect.
Steve
Thank you for this, Paul! This is so awesome. And the cover is hot AF!
One of the greatest songs ever recorded by one of the greatest bands ever formed. And an ultra-rare, tres-funky b-side?
Thank you Paul! I’ll say a million and one hail marys as thanks 🙂
Thanks Paul! One of my favorite PSB singles. 🙂
Absolutely brilliant Paul. Many thanks. My attempts at transferring the Rough Mix of YKWYWW pale in comparison to yours. Just to point out that this is actually the European pressing of the remix 12″ and not the UK one. Thanks again, really appreciate this.
🙂 Siempre agradecido, amigo Paul
Muchas Gracias CL 🙂
Thank you Paul, and Happy Birthday!
This is such a classic 12″ odd how PSB have neglected things such as this. Nice to get the Paul treatment here.
You’re welcome Joey and thank you 🙂
Thank you Paul! You have no idea how badly I needed The Pet Shop Boys tonight! xx
You are very welcome Blair Warner 🙂
Yep Same Here DJVeteran. I thought i knew it all when got “Further Listening.” but nope Paul Comes in materializes more tracks from the ether.
Simply Amazing Work Paul *thumbs up*
Thank you Kaex 🙂
This is excellent. Thanks for posting. I hadn’t heard either of these versions before.
You’re welcome Todd 🙂
These two remixes were never released on the reissue of “Actually” that contained the extra disc “Further Listening.” These are IMO is the best remix of It’s A Sin of all the ones known to be out. The Rough Mix of the “B” side is also a gem and worth an ear.
Thank’s Paul for this spin.
You’re welcome DJVeteran 🙂
One of my all-time favourite remixes. I even cut it done to a 5-minute radio remix. Love it, just love it. I vividly remember playing it to my brother shortly after its release – he HATED 12inch remixes back then (and frankly, he still does today). This one he loved, it probably is the only 12inch mix his car stereo system(s) have ever had the honor of playing 🙂 And the b-side? It certainly is in my Top 5 Pet Shop Boys b-sides together with “Was That What It Was” and a few others. In general, the PSB have always… Read more »
You have great taste in music too Song_and_Dance. Thanks so much 🙂
I love the Pet Shop Boys, this is indeed a rarity for the flip side.
Enjoy! Mark 🙂
WOW Thank You Paul, I’m looking forward to hearing the Ian Levine remix of It’s A Sin.
Please, Actually and Introspective are being released here in the UK on the 2nd March, but unfortunately I’m only seeing the original track listing for the vinyl release, the cd’s are 2 discs with the extra tracks (Further Listening).
Then again you’ve posted some great PSB 12″ and the B-Sides are fantastic too.
You’re welcome, John. Unfortunately, the new UK releases are the same discs that came out in 2001 as far as I know nothing new has been added.
What a fantastic way to start your birthday week! This is my favourite PSB single but believe it or not I never heard this remix before. Back then they only played the Disco Mix. So this is great find for me. This Levine Remix sounds awesome. I wonder if it has ever been released on CD officially. Thank you so much Paul.
Thank you, Daniel. Not sure if this mix of “It’s A Sin” is on CD. I know it’s not on the remastered Further listening CD. The Rough Mix is vinyl only for sure though.
Thanks ! PSB is my favorite Duo from my Teenage and High school years ! I Would listen everyday a cassete tape version of album discography on my car
You’re welcome Jonathan 🙂
Thanks a lot, Paul. I waited for this patiently 😊
You’re welcome Marko 🙂
PAUL!! I know it’s your Birthday week, so I hope that you’ll post your very favorite tracks in honour of your special day!! This is great because I think this may be the first time I’ve heard this remix and no better hearing via you and your massive expertise. What a treasure you are. I’m all a twitter!! Can’t wait to go home and bliss-out to your rip.
Many, many thanks!!
Jeff
Thank you, Jeff. Hope you enjoy the remix 🙂
Top draw. Many thanks for this much needed delight!
You’re welcome Neil 🙂
The Rough Mix is indeed a vinyl only, thanks!
You’re welcome Martijn van Heeringen 🙂
Thanks Paul.
