Amazing! This is easily my favorite New Order song and I never had a chance to make a proper vinyl rip of my own copy, so this is well appreciated! Keep up the good work!

What a great cover! Bought this 12” back then just because of the mysterious cover. No mentioning of the artist … I did the same back then when Front 242 ‘Politics Of Pressure’ was out – I saw the cover, thought ‘wow, that’s a cool cover’ and bought it though never heard of the band. And I was positively surprised!

Indeed, ‘Thieves like us’ also is one of my top 10 New Order tracks.

Never was into NO albums, but the 12inches are in my all time favourites selection, the New Order – Substance compilation, a must have!

On discogs, Arthur Baker remix credits 311, LOL

I love early New Order too. Thanks for sharing this one. If you come across the 12″ for Temptation I hope you share that one too. They used a different mix on the Substance compilation.

New Order — I mean, vintage New Order –gets me every time. Thank you Paul for posting this New Order single. I love how Arthur Baker wrote the track which presaged the work he would do later on with the band on their “Confusion” single. Again, it’s as if I’m seeing my record collection come to life on Burning The Ground. It’s so awesome that we share a lot of the same tastes Paul. Thanks for starting the week off with such an excellent song.

Baker co-wrote the song with New Order during the same sessions that produced “Confusion”. “Confusion” was released in the summer of 83, and “Thieves” was released in spring 84

Thanks for the info. Arthur Baker is very important to me musically, as he and his frequent collaborator John Robie, really shaped my musical tastes.

My favorite NO single. Thanks Paul. There’s also the 1986 remixes. Do you have those as well?
