BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1988
“Blue Monday 1988” is British rock band New Order’s 16th single, released in March 1988. Produced by Quincy Jones with the actual remix done by John Potoker. After New Order signed to Qwest in the US, Quincy Jones saw an opportunity for their groundbreaking track to have a legitimate single release and a shot at radio airplay.
“Blue Monday 1988” reached number 3 in the British charts, number 4 in the Australian charts, and topped the dance charts in the United States.
In North America, “Touched By The Hand Of God” was featured as B-side.

Thank you very much. This was the first version of Blue Monday I had on tape as a child and I still love it.
You gave the 24 Bit FLAC track 04 the number 03, Paul.
Great vinyl rip again. Thank you very much.
Also the dub has no remix title in brackets.
Yes the normal flac is the same so possibly the mistake is on all three versions.
For a long time, we were lucky to get any tags at all. I look at it like people who really care about tags probably end up editing every file’s tags in some way or other anyway. Also, having a typo or two to fix gives us a simple knob to twiddle so that we can make these files go from 99% perfect to 100% perfect and get a feeling of accomplishment. 🙂
If you are going to put your comments in the mix please read what you are commenting on properly. It’s not the tags. It’s the filenames. Yes they can easily be amended but then the playlist will not recognise the tracks that now have altered filenames.
Not everybody is up with creating playlists so it’s really helpful when someone (like Paul here) goes to that trouble.
We flag this up so Paul can, if he sees fit, amend the filename and produce a revised playlist for future downloads. You may now get down off your misguided soapbox Mjb.
Hi, Ian, I have fixed the problem. You can download the files again if you like 🙂
I was merely attempting a good-humored response to Paul’s typos. Nobody is being lectured, although I suppose my lack of concern is fueled by the adage about a gift horse.
“The dub has no remix title in brackets” could be about filenames, playlist content, or tags. I guess people can disagree about that.
All hail the Blue Wave/New Wave you’re posting here Paul. You are so priceless with your generosity for beloved singles that are presented pristinely. And you know how I feel about Arthur Baker. Your site is such a fan page too for all the mixers/re-mixers/producers/editors I love.
Jeff
Fantastic remixes on both sides. I love New Order, in particular the early material.
Cheers Paul 🙂
Track numbering is wrong…on the ‘normal’ flac download at least…
Hi, Ian, I have fixed the problem. You can download the files again if you like 🙂
fantastic pault, congratulations and greetings.
hi paul, excellent choice for blue week, sure it’s the 88 version, which finally allowed the edit version to be played on the radio. since the original 83 version only had a very rare japanese promo edit only. this was after the success of true faith, and bizarre love triangle. the video was defnitely similar to the cures ‘the walk’ though. it showed a little flipbook, which is actually real, and i have a rare copy of that (a little beat up), though, but a nice collectible. i loved that they put ‘touched by the hand of God’ on it,… Read more »
Here’s a video i made of the flipbook, using scans of all

hello ,Your blog does not sound good, change the team
Thanks for the great rip! Boy, what a bunch of nobodies on this record, eh? Arthur Baker, Quincy Jones, Tokes. 😉
-Fred
Quincy Jones and Arthur Baker are FAR from NOBODIES.
Quincy Jones is a Producer/Singer and was behind the scenes of Michael Jackson’s solo albums beginning with Off The Wall.
Arthur Baker is a highly prominent Producer/DJ and was behind the music of Afrika Bambaataa, Planet Patrol as well as New Order.
These producers were on the same level for there time as L.A. Reid is today.
As Neil said, I was joking. I thought the winky smiley face indicated my jest. 🙂
Speaking of Reid, I know his work very well. He and Babyface were in the one-hit-wonder band, The Deele and left the band. Reid produced Babyface’s smash album soon after. However, what really sticks with me as Reid’s launchpad was TLC. They were mega mega stars and his “LA Reid” title was on every square inch of TLC’s booklets, covers, media, etc.
Fond memories!
If that’s the case, no biggie.
Sometimes I misinterpret a comment and take it out on context. OOOPS!
Still a great record.
You’re welcome Neil 🙂
Thanks for the BLUE WAVE Paul! Hope election day is a super BLUE Tuesday 🙂
You’re welcome RecordLover81 🙂
Thanks Paul. What a great series based on the theme “BLUE”. This is probably because of the current voting in USA… Hope that this series will go on with another “blue” post. Could be BLUEBEAT 🙂
Thank you, Daniel. Who recorded BLUEBEAT?
I suggested Bluebeat as the name of the band. “Bluebeat” alias “Avalanche” was a norwegian synth-pop duo. They only released one single as Bluebeat but several singles and albums as Avalanche. Their most famous song was “Johnny Johnny come home”. It was a big hit here in France. Another single which I also own is “Blue train”. This could perfectly fit with this series.
LOVE the BLUE tunes. Amazing that both of these 12” masterpieces were on one record.

Thank you Jon 🙂
Thanks my Vinyl Master 🙂
You’re welcome pjanus 🙂
Hmmm.. True Blue.. Blue Monday… Could there be a theme emerging ?
Best wishes to you Paul x
