BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1983
“Only For Love” is the debut single by former Kajagoogoo singer Limahl, following being fired from the group by his bandmates in 1983. The song was featured in the first UK version of Now That’s What I Call Music, and later included on Limahl’s 1984 debut solo album, Don’t Suppose. The song became his first UK Top 20 hit, peaking at No. 16 on the UK Singles Chart. It remains his second most popular single in the UK as a solo act (the first being “The Neverending Story”). The song also reached No. 5 in Switzerland, No. 9 in Austria and No. 51 in the U.S..
Limahl performed the song with Beth Anderson on the TV show American Bandstand on March 9, 1985.
The song also played a part in the singer meeting producer Giorgio Moroder, while he was performing the song at a rock festival in Tokyo the following year. Moroder would help Limahl reach greater international success later in his career.

This is so very cool. Thank you.
I have this 12″ , on of mi first maxi singles !
Thank you, Paul. Those Limahl singles were really good.
The US mix is more “straightforward”, it has a steady beat and even a guitar solo that I think is added – maybe better suited for US clubs? In this respect it’s less of a departure from the original than the UK 12″ mix which has the breaks and quirky edits. Still, the UK mix is quite typical to what was released on 12″ in Europe in 1983.
In fact, all the mixes are ‘exclusive to the U.S. 12″’. In the UK (and Europe), the 12″ came with the ‘regular’ extended version titled ’12” Mix – When She Moves In Close’ (5:43), without any mix credits. Discogs lists this version for all countries except the US – where it apparently was decided that a different mix was needed (not that it’s markedley different!). The non-US release also includes the non-LP track “O.T.T. (Over The Top)”.
Hello Juspuk
“not (…) markedly different”? When have you last listened to the alternative versions? 🙂 They are completely different, the standard “European” mix providing us with sloppy rough cuts. Let alone the silly “Only. Only-Only” beginning….
My German edition of the 5.43 mix is almost mint whereas the US 12inch has become almost unplayable 🙂
Yeah I meant that it does not appear on the CD re-issue of “Don’t Suppose” I should have worded it differently 🙂
I actually forgot about this track, and now I remember it, so thanks Paul.
Radio Caroline would play this track a lot, there is also two video versions of this song, one version (might be U.S) reminds me of a Miami Vice episode. Now I have the chorus stuck in my head.
Love the US video it is very much like a Miami Vice episode 🙂
Oooooh I love it, Paul. Got the 12inch, of course, but its sound quality is far from your rip.
What a great song. You cannot fight singing along and tappig your feet.
It just puts you in a good mood.
I agree Song and Dance this song just makes you feel happy inside 🙂
I know you always get questions like these, but if you had Inside To Outside (The Happening Mix) (12 Inch Vinyl) that would be great. It is also not issued on cd.
I just love the 12inch mix of Inside To Outside. Got that 12inch too, of course 🙂
Yes I have it Martijn van Heeringen I will post it eventually 🙂
Thank you! I’ve been hunting high and low for the 12″ of Inside To Outside for literally years. Best Hump Day ever! Thanks, Paul.
Thx for this. Surprisingly enough, I now see that the instrumental version which is on your vinyl, was not included in the 2014 Cherry Red Deluxe edition of the Don’t Suppose album.
You’re welcome Martijn van Heeringen 🙂
Thanks Paul. I love the eighties singles of Limahl. It´s great to get the exclusive Instrumental Mix.
You’re welcome Daniel 🙂
Just lovely, Paul. I love your choices so very much. They seem to reflect all of my musical needs. I can’t wait to hear this 12-inch.
Grateful!
Jeff
You’re welcome Jeff 🙂
Thanks Paul.
You’re welcome Omar 🙂
