Level 42 – Hot Water (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

A. Front

“Hot Water” is a single released in 1984 by the British musical group Level 42. It was released a couple of weeks before the album True Colours. The single reached #18 on the UK Singles Chart and was a top ten hit in the Netherlands and Norway. The song was produced by Ken Scott

In 1985, “Hot Water” and another True Colours song, “The Chant Has Begun”, were tacked onto the US version of Level 42’s breakthrough album, World Machine, in place of “I Sleep on My Heart,” “Dream Crazy” (which only appeared on the European CD version of the album), and “Coup D’Etat.” “Hot Water” was released as the US follow-up single to the World Machine breakthrough single, “Something About You” in 1986; it peaked at #87.

Hallo Paul.

Mach weiter so.

Oh man… This is so much back to hi school for me, it was VERY popular around here. Incidentally it was also one of my early experiences recording with sync – using one friend’s Yamaha RX-11 drum machine to drive another friend’s Roland JX3P via midi per drum note while outputting the rim shot alone at 24 ppq, recording both to a Fostex 2-input, 4-track cassette. Then syncing the drum machine to the recorded 24 ppq I could record another sequenced track, a metronome click for our drummer and finally some effects on the now freed up sync track. I… Read more »

I loved Level 42 throughout the 80’s, although the early 80’s were my favourite era for the group. This ties in nicely with that era of course.

Thanks in abundance Paul 🙂

Always was the funkiest Level 42 song, great extended version and the 10 minutes of it are not to long at all. But such a funky song would have deserved a dance mix with much more heavier drums. Anyway nice rip!

Paul,

Thank You…Thank You…Thank You! This has been my favorite Level 42 song for 31 years, and I finally have a copy of the FULL Mastermix (not the edit). Can we expect some other Level 42 gems anytime soon?

Also, thanks for all your hard work on preserving these gems from my middle and high school years! 🙂

Paul, how many times can you charge me up!?! I literally worship your musical tastes!!Its like a validation for my own preferences. You’re like this genie because you grant so many musical wishes; even those that I haven’t wished for….YET!! PLUS, the finished product is a work of art. So much of the Disc Jockey’s treasure is marred by all that manipulative handling of matching beats and sc-sc-sc-scratching mix tricks. You have rescued so many favorites and preserved them with the utmost care and clarity. Like they’re fossils of a lost time, frozen in amber. Beautiful jewels they are. Hey,… Read more »

LOVE IT! I´ve always loved Level 42. I own each and every album cd and still got my 29 12inches, of course. The US 12″ sleeve differs from the European. It was obviously created in the style of the World Machine album. Never mind. I do like the remix version.

Thanks, Paul.
