“Night and Day” is a popular song by Cole Porter. It was written for the 1932 musical play Gay Divorce. It is perhaps Porter’s most popular contribution to the Great American Songbook and has been recorded by dozens of artists.

Thank you Paul. I didn’t know there was a 12″ for this.

One of my favourite U2 tracks. Bono is on record as saying that U2 were influenced by The Associates. He says they ‘ripped them off’ in his intro to Billy MacKenzie’s biography. On this particular track I have always felt that Bono sings almost the entirety in the way Billy MacKenzie would have done had he recorded it. The approach is the same, and to any fellow fan of Billy I’m sure the vocal resemblance will be quite uncanny.

It doesn’t get much bigger then this, one of the biggest rock band ever and one of the all-time greatest composer, but very disappointing remixes by Youth, have been back then and are still now. Which is double disappointing as U2 have such a fantastic songbook, but were pretty unlucky with the remixes except the outstanding Perfecto Remix for Even Better Then The Real Thing. Double disappointing as Youth made some phenomenal remixes and production work like, Yazoo – Situation, Blue Pearl – Naked In The Rain, Zoe – Sunshine On A Rainy Day, Yazz – Fine Time and others… Read more »

Those days I really liked the gloomy intimate vibe and combination of drums and machines. U2 however became uhm too uhm big.(I’ll leave it at that.)
Great album, too., that Red, hot and blue-album. Had it and it’s really a showcase of talent and tributes. I have the 12” from Under my Skin, by Neneh Cherry (cool instrumental!).

It’s Outloud that I was thinking of which appears to have the same runtime as the one you’ve posted – the version on ur download isn’t 6.16 , think the discogs entry may be wrong.

I remember hearing this on Radio 1 who only played it Once! It’s a magnificent track and thank you so much for sharing 😃

It’s strange but the vinyl lists 6:16 on the label although that is obviously incorrect and probably the source for the same error on Discogs and elsewhere. This rip of the Twilight Remix from the 12″ is actually different from Youth’s Remix on Outloud. Only in that it is several seconds longer and has a few other musical differences in the last minute or two.

The Twilight version was published on CD as part of a LGBT equality compilation.
Both that and the version on this post are 5.28

I’m not aware of any place the Twilight Remix has been released on CD. Can you provide the name or any more info on the LGBT equality compilation? There have been several similar but always slightly different releases including the 5:21 “Youth’s Remix” on Outloud. In addition to being slightly shorter there were other differences in the ending.

Hi Paul,

once in a while a big I have to say “thank you” and this is a great occasion! For me “Night And Day” performed by U2 was by far the best track on the “Red Hot & Blue” compilation – and it is one of their rarest and most unknown recordings (it was to my knowledge the only official track missing in Apple’s U2 special edition of the iPod back then). I like the original version better than the remixes but it is nice to have them in such decent quality.

Best wishes from Germany

Such a classy tune Paul. I have the “Red Hot + Blue” compilation and so love U2’s interpretation of this Cole Porter song. I had no idea there was a 12-inch in support of the song. Again, you dazzle me with these surprises. Ooh, I can’t wait to thrill to this mix. Paul, thanks for this gift of music. I am really excited to check it out.

Have a tremendous weekend and I’ll be talking with you soon!!

All the very best,

Jeff

As a CD addict, the “Steel String Remix” was available on the “One” UK CD Single back in the days and on the “Achtung Baby” Deluxe Edition.

By the way, thank you Paul for “Twilight Remix” as I never heard it.

Have a great week-end,

Manu
