Debbie Gibson – Shake Your Love (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

A. Front

Headed To The Mall Week.

REQUEST

“Shake Your Love” is the second single by American singer-songwriter-actress Deborah Gibson. Originally recorded in the spring of 1987, the song is written by Gibson herself and produced by Fred Zarr. It was released in September 1987 and reached #4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in December that year. It was her breakthrough single in the U.K., reaching #7 in early 1988. The 12″ single reached #1 on the U.S. Maxi-Singles sales chart.

**Although Side A lists the “Vocal/Club Mix” and “Bonus Beats” as two seperate tracks it is actually one twelve minute version without any gap between songs. I have left it this way to keep the integrity of the original vinyl release.

Wow! Thanks Paul. It’s nice to finally have a full 12+ minute remix, as all I had was the first 5:56 which was on the Greatest Hits CD awhile back. My favorite is the Club / Bonus beat mix, but my second favorite is the Bad Dubb mix. I’m not sure, but I think I might have heard the Bad Dubb version a few years back when a local station was playing a Saturday Night 80s mixshow for about half a year. They got rid of the show when they learned it was getting good ratings. I remember vocals being… Read more »

Great site, Paul! Don’t know where to ask this…but can you re-post a few of your older listings with the WinRar settings…such as “Is This Love” by Gang of Four and “Rapture” by Blondie? Thanks so mush for all your work on this blog, Karl.

Thank you, Paul for the great post. I didn’t remember that the Vocal / Club Mix/ Bonus Beats were one big track – fascinating. Thanks for the info and for the great rip. Cheers!

Paul, Thanks so much for posting these Debbie Gibson twelve inches. Out Of The Blue was the first album I ever owned on CD when my parents purchased our first CD player in 1988. So I guess it has sentimental value to me! At the time, whenever I could get a CD, it was like a huge event. Out Of The Blue was really my introduction to pop music (and CDs). I listened to the album last night, and I think it still sounds great. I’d also like to request The Jets “Curiosity” 12-inch (if you have it)– they were… Read more »

Paul,
Have to share this story with you. During my sophomore year (1987-1988) at Ithaca College, my next door neighbor in the dorm told me that he’d heard that Debbie Gibson had just interviewed on campus to be an incoming freshman. The best bit of his story: her limo was parked outside of the administration building with the license plate SHKYRLV.
No idea if (and highly doubt that) any of this is true, but every time I see or hear the title, this is what I think of.
Hope this makes you smile, Paul. Keep up the good work.
Chris

I’ll say it again in case people didn’t see my similar posts in the past…the Bad Dubb Version is a perfect example of why I (still now but started in early 80s) loved remixing, love remixes, and love music…so much creativity in dubs and remixes rather than hearing the same old 3:48 radio edit with a 16-beat intro and cold ending. So much music (even today) is just so bland on the radio…the remixers are so under-appreciated.

I know I said thanks earlier today, but thanks again Paul!

I like it and it’s been years I heard her music, so it’s fun to listen to these Gibson singles. Curious which single follows tomorrow…

These are such high quality releases Paul. And talk about a twelve inch single packed with a lot of mixes!! Awesome. I remember Scott Blackwell from back-in-the-day. He used to do a mix show on WQHT Hot 103.5 during their weekend broadcasts at the New York night clubs. Mr. Blackwell was a very impressive mix master!! So many memories from this time period. Also looking forward to the dub mix with edits by Roger Pauletta. He was another “Edit King” from way-back! This was a great time in my life with all these great mixers, editors and producers that really… Read more »

Anyone care to place some bets on how long it is before a certain person shows up to complain about today’s flavor of free ice cream? 😀

THANKS SO MUCH! The 80s were my “time” for deejaying and mixing and listening to the wealth of great new (and plentiful) remixes being churned out by the labels! Check out the dubs and bonus beats…especially on a pair of nice headphones! Thanks again, Paul!! I really appreciate your efforts!
