Dead Or Alive – Rip It Up (Flip Out Mix) (Japan 12″ Promo)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

Originally I posted this one back on July 26th, 2012. But for those who may have missed it or if you are a new reader just discovering BTG. I decided to give this one a new 2017 transfer. I have also included as a bonus the Hot Tracks remix of “Brand New Lover”.

Here is the MEGA RARE 1987 Japanese PROMO-ONLY 12″ “Rip It Up (Flip Out Mix)” from British band Dead Or Alive. This is one of the most sought after Dead Or Alive promos… very few in existence and very rare. This 12″ was used to promote the album “Rip It Up” and has never appeared on any other Dead Or Alive release. There were only about 100 copies of this 12″ made making it one of the rarest Japanese Dead Or Alive items.

Japanese PROMOS are by far the rarest of all promotional format. When finished with the vinyl, radio stations would either smash or throw away the promos to prevent resale. Japan stopped pressing vinyl mainstream in the mid 1990’s and switched to the CD format for most releases. The very existence of a Japanese PROMO is itself rare, much less a promo from Dead Or Alive!

So nice of Jim Hopkins not to threaten you with a lawsuit 🙂

Hi Paul

Thanks for including my Hot Tracks edit on this. I, as well as quite a few friends thought that this was a vinyl release with my mix included. I guess it’s just a download?

F.Y.I All of my old tape edits are available on my HearThis page. https://hearthis.at/twitchsf/

Cheers!

OH MY GOODNESS!!! It is indeed an honor to have the GREAT Jim “Hip Hop” Hopkins grace Paul’s Burning The Ground with his presence!!! I’ve been such a long time fan of yours. What you did for Hot Tracks, plus, Rhythm Stick and of course, your Twitch remix service has been exquisite! I’ve always wanted an opportunity to say thank you to all those that made music resonate with me, but alas, sometimes that just can’t happen. I adore you so much. I’m glad you made your appearance here. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! I am tickled to death… Read more »

These rips are so good, and this is truly a prize. Isn’t there one more early pre SAW 7″ out there?
These rips definitely compliment the box set which I had to get. You are right though there are definite points to that set, besides the audio troubles, like the abscence of sleeves etc, which would have added a lot to the set.

Thanks for this re-rip. The Dead Or Alive box set was kinda a disappointment, even after they fixed the errors, because I felt that the remastered sound quality was not really that good. Your Vinyl rips are always going to sound much better I think, and one track I am dreaming of seeing ripped to vinyl someday is the single edit of “Brand New Lover”, since it seems hard to find, and the box set remaster leaves a lot to be desired, IMO, … thanks for re-ripping this, and I am excited to hear the bonus track, the remix of… Read more »

Oh Paul, after listening to the “Brand New Edit” of “Brand New Lover” I really, really miss the old Hot Tracks. Such great creativity, and really it was just a producer’s wild imagination with a razor blade. Just phenomenal. Love those backwards beats and re-arranged bits and pieces. Gosh, tape editing is amazing. Thanks for dusting this one off and giving it your incredible rip.

Adoration!!!

Jeff

Hello Jeff and Paul

I love the wild brand new edits as well 🙂 And then again, listening to this great song and the great remix edit makes me sad. Unbelievable that dear Pete is no longer with us. The last couple of years made music lovers suffer dearly. My goodness.

Love and hugs to both of you. Let us celebrate every day we are still allowed to walk our wonderful planet.

Right back at you Song_and_Dance!! We’ve lost so many wonderful artists over the last couple of years, but Pete’s death really affected me more than the others. I’m so glad we have Paul in our lives to pay tribute to Pete and his band Dead Or Alive with his stellar rips.

Love and Hugs!!

Jeff

Thanks Paul. You’re the best! Even though the DOA box set came out last year I’m hoping Sony will do the back catalogue justice and release a 2cd 12″ collection!
