Dead Or Alive – Misty Circles (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1983

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETE BURNS!

“Misty Circles” is a song written and recorded by English New Wave/dance band Dead or Alive. It was co-produced by the band and Zeus B. Held and released as the first single from Dead or Alive’s first album Sophisticated Boom Boom.

“Misty Circles” was the first song to be released by Dead or Alive after being signed to a major label, Epic Records. The band’s prior single releases were issued independently. This song was not very successful, but it managed to peak at number 100 on the UK Singles Chart. In 1984, the song was placed on the B-side of “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)”. As both sides earned significant play in American nightclubs, they charted together as a double-sided hit on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, peaking at number four. The band performed it before a live audience on Razzmatazz, which features Pete Burns wearing a wardrobe similar to Boy George’s, and thus created some temporary friction between the two singers in later years.

A belated ‘TA !’ 2 mr Wolf for the headzup on this post. The email reminders just seemed to have stopped. I will re-do, Plus as for ‘Outfit Issues’ – I saw that Video + It’s deffo Mudd Club/Hayzee Fantazee if anything. Mr O’Dowd wasn’t the only White Boi Club Glamazon trying to be a Black Girl in the Hair Dept. (The 80’s 4FS ! LOL) Xx * great track x

One of the best DOA 12″ singles. Awesome artwork too. Thanks Paul. You’ve made Wolfie howl like a beast once again

Hi. I’ve been hoping for some time to do a few compilations of all your DOA stuff but the first two or three are on an old drive and have not been downloadable in MP£ or FLAC for well over a year from your site. Any chance of re-doing them in 24-bit FLAC or even a simple Re-up? Thanks.

Thank you so much for this upload!

For (serious) DOA listeners, go and get DOORS OF PERCEPTION CD. Even if it’s a bootleg, it’s a treasure on CD to hear early DOA tracks.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETE!!!

You can hear about how Pete & DOA got involved with S/A/W in this interview- and hear how DOA’s nig hit, You Spin Me Round, sounded before it got the SAW treatment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dgrS4hfEAg

Dooooooood! I think I have been looking for the answeres that are in that video for YEARS…. I knew when I heard the tune way back when that it was a new sound… I am so glad that they did not stop at the demo version. I would have loved to stay in the studio and listened to Mr. Pete Waterman finish the mix…. If anything made my Monday better, it was this post.

Ah yes, had seen this clip a while ago but had forgot about it. 😀

So who were the underground hi-NRG producers that Pete Burns would have heard, before Pete Waterman commercialised it?

It was early Divine singles that inspired the sound Pete wanted to recreate for “Spin Me”. SAW had just done You Think You’re A Man and since that wasn’t the massive hit it should have been, they were cheap. Divine’s original producer, Bobby O (Orlando) was orginally approched but proved to be too expensive.

Ah, I thought there was more than one , but I just saw it’s a re-release. 😀

Happy Birthday Mr Burns!

Watch Pete’s face throughout this tedious Japanese interview, he’s obviously in a foul mood as it is. 😀

Brilliant!!! I have this 12″, and a few other of the early releases.

So good to hear their beginnings, and what they sounded like as a real band before SAW got on board. (I don’t know who approached who actually, as SAW weren’t that famous at that point???)

Do you have any of the Nightmares in Wax stuff?

Hehe… BTW I’ve only just made the connection – is this why there’s Mission 12″s on Burning The Ground? I always forget Wayne Hussey was once in DoA. 😀

Jermajesty, it was DOA who approached SAW, SAW had their first Top 20 hit with Divine’s You Think You’re A Man by then, and Pete loved the sound they created for Divine, and wanted SAW to create the same sound for them.
