Olivia Newton-John – Totalmente Ardiendo (Totally Hot) (Mexico 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1979

Side A

DISCO FRIDAY!

Released in 1979 “Totally Hot” was the third single from Olivia Newton-John’s ninth studio album of the same name. The disco flavored track was a minor hit in the US peaking at #52 after spending six weeks on the Billboard singles chart. In Canada the single reached #92.

Considerd to be one of the rarest Olivia Newton-John records this 12″ was only released in Mexico and is extremely hard to find. The “Disco Mix” is exclusive to this release. In the US an edit of this mix was used for the 7″ single and has never appeared on CD. In 2010 Japan included the “Disco Mix” as a bonus track on the SHM release of the “Totally Hot” album, however the mix used was taken from vinyl and as occurs with many remastered CD’s clips severely (see clipping).

The titles on the label are written in Spainsh and English.

Given the obvious edits and the rearrangement of Olivia’s vocal takes on the 45 remix, I do believe the 12″ remix of “Totally Hot” was created before the 45. Further, it appears the 7″ edit of the 12″ remix was subjected to additional effects that are not included on the 12″ remix. For example, the drums on the 7″ remix have an echo effect. Also, the background singers on the 7″ are further in the background and given a great deal of reverb. The overall effect, in my opinion, is that Olivia’s voice is nearly buried beneath all the effects… Read more »

Thanks a bunch for this! I bought the ONJ SHM-CD box set from Japan and have the CD, but I like your rip of the song better.

A request: Could you post the 7″ mix of “Totally Hot” to this blog some time? I have three copies of the 7″ single, but all are in fairly poor condition and I’d love a great-sounding rip of that mix.

TGIF, Paul!
I don’t remember you posting this (if you did, could’ve been before I found your blog) but I do recall you saying this being very rare.
So glad you got round to post it here, and for Disco Friday!
Wished Olivia had delved more into Disco then, but she was still America’s sweetheart and they didn’t want her to grow up! LOL!
Thanks!

Thanks for posting this the second time round! I ripped it the first time you posted it on your previous old blog, hopefully this sounds better with your new equipment! I recalled listening to the 7″ (45-RPM) version on the radio as a teenager though I only owned the ‘Totally Hot’ album, hardly her singles (unless they have interesting b-sides)! Specially like the cool guitar riff section! Cheerio!

In fact you did (both 7″ and 12″), I still have the old folder and you even designed your own neat cover then.

Yes, the song previously came with artwork showing ONJ with a bandana over part of her face?

Yes, it was the same pic as the album insert or lyrics sleeve. It was at the time when everybody was trying to upload free music long just before iPod came into existence. Wow, so fast gone were the days of free music blogs… amazing! Anyway, appreciated all your music sharing those days! xxx

Now, if u combine both the 7″ and 12″ singles together, the playlist will be as follow:
1. Totally Hot (12″ Disco Mix) 5:15
2. Talk To Me 3:30
3. Dancin’ ‘Round & ‘Round 4:00
4. Totally (7″ Single Mix) 3:53

… and slap it with the cover of the 7″ US single cover that read “Totally Hot/Dancin’ ‘Round & ‘Round,” you got a pretty EP package of 4 tracks. Viola! Enjoy!

Wow, it better be in mink condition, lol. Oh well, u paid well for ur guilty pleasure eh!

There used to be a site where one can download all artists’(featured alphabetically) discography (only albums) and it’s been gone 4 years. I was one of the lucky ones who was able download all ONJ’s international albums and compilations, all at 128kbps, now all personally re-saved at 320kbps/44.1Khz! Anyway, enjoy the music… btw the video is amazing too! Skinny tight hot black pants! U can watch it on youtube! Cheers!

Paul, So you won the eBay auction! I placed a bid in that, too! Well, I can think of no one more deserving than you to have won this amazingly rare treat. You’ve brought me so much joy because of your willingness to share the music you collect. I have many ONJ recordings that I wouldn’t have it if weren’t for you. No, my bid was no where near what you paid, so I didn’t drive the price up to more than $400. But still, I’m very pleased you won the auction. Not too many of these disks exist and… Read more »
