Climie Fisher – This Is Me (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

“This Is Me” is the 1986 debut single by UK pop duo Climie Fisher formed by vocalist Simon Climie (born 7 April 1957) and former Naked Eyes keyboardist Rob Fisher (5 November 1956 – 25 August 1999).

Upon the song’s original release in 1986, the single failed to chart. “This Is Me” was re-released in 1988 after the duo had found major success with the single’s “Love Changes Everything” and “Rise To The Occasion”. The re-release peaked at #22 the UK, #34 Netherlands, #60 Germany, #15 New Zealand and #10 Portugal. “This Is Me” also features backing vocals by English singer/songwriter Kirsty MacColl.

Wow, my favourite Climie Fisher single (Everything was one of the last great 80s pop albums for me), in a version I’ve never heard before. My first exposure to the song was on a train journey in 1986, listening to Radio 1’s Roundtable on a Friday, and thinking what a brilliant track. Then it flopped. Even the #22 peak of the reissue in 1988 hardly seemed like justice.

The middle eight always kills me. This extended mix is incredible, highlighting and building on all the best bits of the arrangement. Thank you SO MUCH for posting this!

EG.

Hi, A few facts, can argue about it not worth it. I know they are true 1 – This is the Extended Version NOT The This is it mix. The This is it mix is the mix that sounds like the Hip Hop Mix of Rise To The occasion. Most of the 12″s are mislabeled only the UK Promo has it right. 2. Mister Max Hardfilling is NOT Phil Harding. He never used any alias. Chap (PHil Harding & Ian Curnow) is the only thing that came close. 3. So that stated Phil Harding did NOT do this mix. You… Read more »

DJPaulT, the This is It Mix is on the later 1988 reissue 12” not the 12EMI5578 one, which just has the Extended version, so not sure which one you have uploaded? Mr Max Hardfilling is actually Phil Harding of PWL under a nom de plume, that mix is in the ‘Casanova’ / sample style prevalent in PWL in 1988. The Extended Version is simply that.

I don´t think I´ve ever heard the twelbe inch remix of “It”. Great version. The same goes for their bigger hit singles “(Love Changes) Everything” and “Rise To The Occasion”, the singles versions of which received much more airplay back then. “This Is It” is such an underrated great song. Love it.
Thank you Paul.

I’m still blown away by the two last posts. And here comes another great one. I love the works of Rob Fisher and in particular the project Climie Fisher. This is not my favorite single by Climie Fisher but this remix is just brilliant. Thanks a lot Paul for this exclusive mix.

Although I know a lot about the music of the 1980’s, there are some occasions where I may not know the song. In this case, I have heard of Climie Fisher, but really wasn’t too familiar with their discography. Well Paul, again you come to the rescue to expand my knowledge of fantastic 80’s gems!! Just checked it out on the internet (I’m on lunch at work) and am blown away. I love Steve Lillywhite so I knew the track had to be good. This song is wonderful!! And the mix is EPIC. I’ve always enjoyed the Go Go genre,… Read more »
