Cheyne – Call Me Mr. ‘Telephone’ (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“Call Me Mr. Telephone (Answering Service)” is a 1985 single by the American teenage singer, Cheyne, which was produced by Mark Kamins and Stephane Gerbier, and written by Nicolosi Giuseppe and Tony Carrasco (credited as Answering Service).

The single is a cover version of a 1984 single that was recorded by the Italian group Answering Service, whose name was included in the bracket as an acknowledgment to the group and to avoid confusion due to the single being released internationally. This was Cheyne’s only charted single, which topped the U.S. Dance chart for 1 week on June 8, 1985, and remained on the chart for eleven weeks. On the soul, chart Call Me Mr. Telephone peaked at number sixty-two.

Is there any chance you could post the original by Answering Service?

Paul, it’s been ages since I’ve last heard this record, but it’s so great that it’s back courtesy of you. I do like the song, especially that fantastic piano solo on the record. The rap made me laugh; raps were so different back then compared to today’s hip hop moments. It’s cool that Mark Kamins was behind this record too. You bring back all of my favorites.

Jeff

This is a fun record. It really does sound like Madonna on backing vocals, though by all accounts it is said not to be Madonna, it would not surprise me if it actually is. Interesting that she was going to give her Into the Groove to sing, and how similar the piano break on this record sounds like the piano on the You Can Dance remix.
Thank you for another great record.

Hey Paul, got this one with the same promotional stamp.
Got it in 1988 on a $1 sale bin. Sadly was not in mint condition.
Thanks for all the time invested on this HQ rip.
By the way have you heard a remix of it issued in the UK?
