“Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” is a hit song by American dance group C+C Music Factory. It was released in late 1990 as the lead single from the album, Gonna Make You Sweat. The song charted internationally and achieved great success in the United States, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland where it reached number one on the charts.
The rap was performed by Freedom Williams and the vocal “Everybody Dance Now” by disco/house music artist Martha Wash.
This 12″ is the 1991 re-issue that featured previously unavailable house remixes.

After clicking through to look at the Discogs listing, I noticed that I already have this version, as the UK exclusive DMC remix 12″ features it. my fellow commenters make the dub mix sound very interesting, though!
Played the heck out of the original while DJing the military enlisted clubs, Knew of these but was never able to obtain these mixes. Thanks for the preview.

I can’t even listen to their stuff. What they did to Martha Wash was despicable and it’s no surprise their careers went straight into the toilet after everything was revealed. Their second and third albums were commercial bombs. I’ll never forget when rapper Freedom Williams stated in a MTV interview the reason they didn’t have Martha Wash in the videos was because no one wants to see a “fat” singer on TV. Pathetic!
Well…
Martha Wash won the case in court. To match their first album was almost unattainable but the real reason why they were never the same was because David Cole passed away and Robert Clivilles literally couldn’t get over his partner’s death. They’ were a team.
Martha’s vocals were also used un-credited by Black Box too.
Yes they were. That Black Box team used vocals from many divas like Kym Mazelle and Holloway. Being from out of the States made a very hard case to take them to court. During that era, sampling was out of control.
Yes Black Box was just as awful.

This is another classic example of the Dub being better than the main Remix. 😉 I remember so vividly when I got this 12″ from my Sony/Epic rep when I was deejaying in college…went back to the dorm (I was on top floor…7th floor) and absolutely cranked the Dub starting at 3:53 to 4:49. You could see the heads bobbing across campus. I later looped portions of this 1 minute segment for an ESPN College Cheerleading Competition our school was in…using Creative Labs’ sound card software. Epic is an understatement…especially for portions of the Dub. If you had been in a club with thousands of watts of power cranking this it was insane.
And yes…before and after C&C Music Factory was born you could find top artists remixed by “Clivilles and Cole”. I wasn’t a huge fan of every “house mix” they did but in general they were well enjoyed by the House fans.
I’m holding on tight Paul!! I know this song very well and actually, the original is one of my favorite dance songs of all time. Now, I am shaking and quaking now at my desk, because I’ve never heard these mixes before. How cool is this!! You are truly amazing in what you give us.
