“Flesh For Fantasy” is a song by English rock musician Billy Idol, from his second album Rebel Yell (1983). It was released in 1984, as the third single from the album.
In the U.K. “Flesh For Fantasy” reached #54. In the United States the single did much better peaking at #29 on October 6, 1984 after spending twelve weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

What to say about Billy Idol, another great artist of the 80s, listened to his tapes hundreds of times while driving, danced his songs at the discotheques and bought all his maxi singles, picture disks and LPs until the Charmed Life was released. Steve Stevens was at his best also on guitar.He contributed on bass and keyboards too. Harold Faltermeyer in the 3rd LP helped a lot on the synths and made a great different style record. Thanks, Paul! What I’ve always loved about this remix (not to mention the song itself) is the amount of editing/sampler work that was done on this remix so early in the 80s. In fact, I’m not so sure the work was even a sampler. If you closely listen to 2 snippets: 3:59-4:01 and later at 4:45-4:50…it’s not the typical “stutter” effect and it’s not just repeating the same split second over and over. Cool Edit (which became Adobe Audition when they bought it out) was another editor program that would let you move the endpoints of the loop while it was playing. Actually, I can think of one way this effect could have been done with a sampling synth back in the 80s. Many of them would stop and restart the sample tied to a key if you struck the key, released it, then struck it again before the sample finished playing. Plus you really share my passion for sampling and multi-editing. Paul is the only person I know who really showcases vintage 12-inches that really contain some wonderful editing and such. What a scintillating track this is Paul!! Billy Idol is a walking, breathing sex God!! This record just oozes testosterone and you can almost smell the sweat and sex as it plays through thespeakers! Love this……BIG TIME!!! It gets me “below the belt” each time!!

Oh boy, the one-eyed thing pops up again in music history. Hard to imagine his bossess still rule the industry, no?
Saw him live last year at the Forum in Los Angeles as part of a big 80’s lineup with Tears For Fears, Culture Club and a lot more. He was incredible. He looked amazing, and sounded so good I thought for a minute he might have been lip-synching, but he wasn’t. Each act only had about 25 minutes to play, so he only did three songs- all with lengthy solos and extended parts- I hope he tours again, I’d love to see a full show.

Love the Billy Idol records in the 80’s and love this track too. Steve Stevens was a fantastic guitarist on Billy’s records, great power chords on many of his tracks like White Wedding and Rebel Yell.

That’s cool Paul, Dekadance would be a great EP to see on here, you always record the best quality from any vinyl and I always love the scans of the covers, the 80’s had such great artwork!
There is a documentary just shown in Australia called Michael Hutchence: The Last Rockstar and it featuring various famous musicians including Simon Le Bon and Bono, hopefully it will get shown everywhere else or maybe a DVD or Blu-Ray release..
