“Toughen Up” was the second single taken from the thirteenth studio album “Soul Kiss” by Australian singer Olivia Newton-John on MCA Records. Written by Graham Lyle and Terry Britten (What’s Love Got To Do With It) “Toughen Up” had originally been offered to Tina Turner but was rejected.

“Toughen Up” failed to make a dent on the U.S. Billboard charts but was quite popular in dance clubs due in part to a 12″ dance remix by John “Jellybean” Benitez. “Toughen Up” did chart in Australia peaking at #69. The song includes a guitar solo by Grammy-winning guitarist Lee Ritenour.

The music video opens showing a topless Olivia wearing riding pants and holding a riding crop. In the video directed by David Mallet Olivia plays the part of a headmistress for a girl’s school where she teaches her female students to “Toughen Up” against the men that have done them wrong.

Neither track has appeared on CD or digitally.

Angie Gold – Eat You Up (Japan 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1985

“Eat You Up” is a song by British singer-songwriter Angie Gold, written by Gold and Anthony Baker and released in 1985 by Passion Records (U.S.).

The single peaked at No. 30 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs Chart on August 17, 1985, after spending six weeks on the survey, “Eat You Up” would be Gold’s only U.S. Charting single. It found more success in Japan, where it was titled “Suteki na High Energy Boy” (素敵なハイエナジー・ボーイ, Suteki na Hai Enajī Bōi, “Nice High Energy Boy”) and spent four consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Oricon’s international singles chart in early 1986. Other artists in Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea also adapted the song in several languages.

Gold later re-recorded the song with producer Ian Levine for her 1995 compilation album The Best of Angie Gold: Eat You Up.

“Hold Me” is a song by the American pop singer Laura Branigan, which was released in 1985 as the second single from her fourth studio album Hold Me. It was written by Bill Bodine and Beth Andersen, and produced by Jack White and Harold Faltermeyer.

Following the Top 40 success of the first single from Hold Me, “Spanish Eddie”, “Hold Me” was released as the follow-up single. It reached No. 82 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart and No. 39 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs Chart.

**”Spanish Eddie” is mislabeled on the label it is actually the LP Version.

Company B – Fascinated (US 12″)

AN 80s AUDITORY ICON

“Fascinated” is a song by the freestyle girl group Company B. It was the first single released off their 1987 self-titled debut album. It was written and produced by Ish Ledesma, mixed by Ciro llerenea and Randy Miller, and released by Atlantic Records.

The song topped the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in March 1987 and remained there for four weeks. Soon after, the single was picked up by Top 40 radio, and it charted on the Billboard Hot 100 spending eight weeks in the Top 40 in May and June 1987, peaking at #21. It became Company B’s most successful hit single in the U.S. and is one of the first freestyle songs to enter the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100.
