Thanks thanks thanks again Paul!
Richard Darbyshire rocks. His Zu Zu Sharks, Living in a Box and solo stuff are amazing! Thanks again for posting this forgotten gem and hoping one day post more zu zu singles (they’re have 3 actually; their fist single -Spies/Big Boys- was released on Polydor label) and more LIAB Maxi singles

Best regards from Lima, Perú
Julio

I heard this tune for the first time in early spring of 1984, after that 20 years later. Until now i did not hear extended version.
All credits for this tune!!!

Jesus H what the hell is this!! I’ve seriously , once again, never heard of it! But Gary Tibbs!!! I must check it out.

Do you know the film Breaking Glass BTW Paul – Gary Tibbs has a pretty major role in it (as a bassist :D)

And he did a stint in Roxy Music just prior to the Ants, I found out last year. I think maybe this Zu Zu Sharks track didn’t hit because it was just a year or two too early. It sounds very much like something from 1985. OMG Paul, you really should check out Breaking Glass – filmed in grim 80s London, about a struggling new-wave band and the pressures of success. Jeremy Healy (Haysi Fantayzee) and Philip Saloon (Boy George’s mate) are in it briefly as extras. Boy George has said he was in a crowd scene at a gig,… Read more »

No NOOOO! The blu-ray release is the US version and is very heavily cut, even with a completely different ending!
Hope I’m not too late with my warning.
You need the UK version, which has only been out on DVD. (and YouTube 😉 )

It also might not have “hit”, at least here in the States, because it was only a single, without a full album behind it. Record companies and radio stations here in the US tended not to give a lot of attention to non-album singles (other than novelty records such as “Disco Duck”), especially from obscure or unknown artists without an existing track record of hits. If they’d held together long enough to release a full album, they might’ve gotten some more promotion on this side of the pond.

Wow, I never expected to find this favourite of mine here! Especially as rare as it is outside Spain, where it really was a big hit, but I’ve always wondered why it flopped everywhere else. A few years later I became a fan of Living In A Box, and it took me some time to realize it featured the same vocalist, the great Richard Darbyshire. Memories…

“Eyes of the world” is also pretty good, do you have it too?

Keep it up, Paul!!

Thank you Paul for such a feel good, wait, scratch that, FEEL GREAT!! SONG!! Whoa, this really released my serotonin levels! You can pick such excellent songs to elevate one’s mood and mind set! This was new to me, but I can’t understand why this didn’t get any airplay. This song is such an amazing ditty. The Winter’s cold and horrid, but this speaks of Spring and Summer! Terrific choice Paul to get rid of the doldrums! You rock!!

Wow… did this even get any kind of release or airplay in the US at all? Because I sure don’t remember ever hearing of these guys before…

(Hm. According to Discogs.com, these guys only had two singles; this one, and “Eyes of the World.” I don’t suppose you have “Eyes” coming up next in the queue, do you? 🙂 )

Yay 🙂 In the meantime — since I couldn’t find the lyrics anywhere online (the internets, they have failed me!), I took a stab at transcribing it, as a service to the BTG community. 🙂 —————- Pressure’s on, turn me on Turn me over to the other side The enemy territory The guarantee that love has died The cold war of the words The fighting between the lines I got nothing to say I’m waiting for the day When we can fall together Lose them all, and we’ll live forever We’ll live forever As love tumbles down To the ground… Read more »

Hey Doc, thanks so much for taking the time to transcribe the lyrics!

As for the 3rd line, I’ve always heard “The enemy territory”, but then again English’s not my mother tongue, so take it with a pinch of salt…

Hm… Actually, yours might be the right one. “Territory” didn’t occur to me because that’s four syllables, while the line as sung is clearly only three syllables — but after listening to it again with that suggestion in mind, it could well be “territ’ry”, i.e. “territory” sung with the last two syllables squeezed together into “—tree” instead of “–tor-ee”. And “enemy territory” would make more sense…

…yeah, let’s go with that one instead. 🙂 Too bad there’s no way to go back and edit an existing post…
