BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987
“Call It Love” was the second single taken from the fifth album One Second by Swiss electronic band Yello. The single peaked at #91 on the UK singles chart in May 1987. This particular 12″ is note worthy because it is an HMV exclusive. “Call It Love” features an extra verse sung by Billy Mackenzie of the Scottish post-punk/new wave band The Associates. This remix is not found on other versions of the single. 2000 copies were available with intial copies of the album One Second.

Thanks for this rare one! Of course it’s always great to see rare posts on this wonderful blog.
Thank you very much Paul
Thanks for the upload of the UK version.
God, those butts are hot, no? 🙂
Great to see a Yello post my friend!
Blimey, Paul, that was quick! I mentioned this a few days ago and here it is already. Thanks for posting what is by far the best version of this song. I have two copies of the vinyl but neither is going to come close to the sound quality you give us. I saw on Facebook that someone had asked about Billy’s version of The Rhythm Divine. As far as I remember it’s the same version that has appeared on CD (on The Glamour Chase) but it’d be great to hear your rip if you can track it down. Looking forward… Read more »
You’re welcome Jonathan. I am so happy that you mentioned this 12″ because I have always loved it. I agree with you it is the superior version. Billy’s version of “Rhythm Divine” is a little more obscure so finding a copy of that 12″ is more of a challenge. It also seems to be a bit more expensive than the Shirley Bassey version. More Associates coming very soon 🙂
Paul, you’re right about it being more expensive. It’s much rarer – took me a long time to find one, and then I found another almost straight away :-). If you can’t locate one, let me know.
Looking forward to more Associates – there are several versions of Heart Of Glass, Just Can’t Say Goodbye, Fever… plus guest vocals for BEF, Apollo 440 (a stunning track), Uno… and obviously Billy’s solo releases under his own name. Keep spoiling us!
Love this version. Thanks, Paul!
You’re welcome Will 🙂
Dearest Paul, you have certainly started my week off right!! The whole day I felt really terrible, like I’m coming down with something. Well, your music turns out to be the best medicine there is! Yello is one of my all-time favorite bands and to receive something from you that is quite the rarity, makes my pulse pound all the more!! What an excellent segue from all The Associate’s singles you’ve posted. And that verse that Billy did, it’s just so beautiful. I thought the partnering of him and Yello was so perfect. I love the album “One Second” and… Read more »
You’re welcome Jeff I think it’s beautiful too. I still have about five or six Associates singles left to do but thought I would take a short breather from them and showcase a couple of the tracks Billy did with Yello. Hope you feel better. Sending you healing vibes 🙂
thank you so much for sharin’ this one. I always loved YELLO – and this Special release was unknown to me 🙂
best wishes
Pat.
You’re welcome Patric 🙂
Thanks Paul. I sometimes felt that Billy should’ve sung lead vocals on an entire Yello album. Call It Love and Rhythm Divine are awesome.
Oh I totally agree Omar 🙂
