“Spy in the House of Love” is a song by American eclectic pop group Was (Not Was). Taken from the album What Up Dog?, it became a large hit for the group in the U.S. and the UK in 1988. In the UK the single reached #21 while in the U.S. it became a #1 dance single and a top twent Hot 100 entry.

Thanks for sharing this Paul. Always loved the song and the Streetsahead and Derek B mixes! They were eclectic and really fit in with the whole sample scene going on at the time. Streetsahead also cut up Simon Harris “Bass (How Low Can You Go)” in a similar way. It is challenging trying to identify all the samples. The Derek B Mix was titled the Dr. X In Full Effect Mix on the imports. Mark mentioned the other remix not on the US 12” which I think was also named the In-House Mix on one or two UK 12”. Thought I was going mad- could’ve sworn I remember James Bond Samples on one of the mixes… after a bit of digging turns out theres an alternate mix on the UK 12″ (alas I no longer own it) the ‘Spy In The House Of Love (My Name Is Young, Jeffrey B. Young, Licensed To ‘Ill Mix)’.
Someone has made a video on youtube syncing a lot of the samples up- well worth a look alongside Paul’s excellent rip of the US 12″ above 😉

Burning The Ground is a celebration!! And Paul, I celebrate you most highly!! It was so nice of you posting this record after yesterday’s incredible posting. What an excellent mix, especially since it has those great samples from the Muppet Show’s resident critics. I can’t wait to re-visit this one also. You really are putting together, for me personally, so much of my beloved record collection. I am overjoyed with all that you do.

Loved Was (Not Was)…..Have you got the 1992 version of Was (Not Was) “Shake Your Head” with Kim Basinger alongside a re-recorded Ozzy Osbourne on vocals.
The original with Ozzy was released in 1983, but I like the 90’s version.
