Burning The Ground Exclusive 1987
“Low Rider” is a song written by American funk band War and producer Jerry Goldstein, which appeared on their album Why Can’t We Be Friends?, released in 1975. It reached number one on the Billboard R&B singles chart, peaked at seven on the Hot 100 singles chart, and six in Canada (number 69 in the Canadian year-end chart[4]).
In 1987 highly influential producer/dj/remixer/musician (drummer, percussionist), Arthur Baker remixed the song to promote the compilation album The Best Of War And More.

Thank you PaulT, for Low Rider 🙂
Love this song! Lee Oskar on harp! Thanks for sharing Paul!!
You’re welcome 🙂
You’re blowing us away Paul, Lol! I don’t think I knew this existed. Having heard the original Low Rider as a staple on the radio, I’m excited for these remixes! Like Jeff I love Arthur Baker! Can’t wait to hear what he did to these mixes. Btw years ago I bought the Fatal Beauty soundtrack (1987), mostly for the War track Sin City produced by Harold Faltermeyer, which I have yet to rip. But how can you go wrong with that combo?! Faltermeyer and Arthur Baker are both up there as far as genius producers/mixers! Thank you Paul!!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound. Love that soundtrack and film. Too bad “Sin City” wasn’t a single.
AMAZING! Thank you! As an 80s kid, I thought for the longest time that this was actually YELLO. Thank you so much for the Arthur Baker remix!
You’re welcome 🙂
Martika, I got to thinking that this would be an awesome song for Yello to cover!! I so can hear it!!
Oh Yeah!
Jeff
Right? It sounds so much like Yello. So, they definitely drew some inspiration from that song. By the way, since we were discussing Beastie Boys sampling, they sampled “Low Rider” for “Slow Ride” on their first album.
Now, I have to break out that album and listen again. I love that musical brain of yours, Martika!!!
Jeff
Radio trivia: in 1979, according to the promotion manager at UA Records, because WLS 890/Chicago didn’t play it as a current, they kept “Low Rider” from going gold.
Thanks for the trivia.
Yessss! Love this band – thanks a lot for this post.
You’re welcome 🙂
War was a great band, and Low Rider is a tune that always lift my spirits and makes me smile.
So thanks very much for sharing this unknown to me remix, Paul!
peace,
dj
War IS a great band. They still play the area from time to time. On his YT Channel Professor of Rock recently interviewed Lonnie in depth. Lonnie still lives in Long Beach-Signal Hill area.
Awesome. I didn’t know they are still active,
that’s more than 50 years now!
Thanks for your reply DJ Xrey.
Peace,
dj
What timing! War (in their current form) just played at a free music/food event here in town, Columbia, SC. They were great, Leroy “Lonnie” Jordan is still singing, not sure how many other original members remain, but it was fun! Thanks!
The answer to that is zero. I was at the show the night the other surviving members got a cease and desist on using the name. Look for the Lowrider band, it’s the rest of the band.
thanks! good to know! It was free, so I was not too critical, and the beer was good!
Original War members in current Lowrider Band lineup:
They lost the case in Federal Court the ability to tour & record as “War” to record mogul Jerry Goldstein and Lonnie Jordan.
Goldstein owns the name and the music. Lonnie works for him.
Thank you! I didn’t know this one even existed.
You’re welcome 🙂
You are wowing me so much, Paul!!! Like what Retro Hound said two days ago, you are making me “rock hard” because of these selections!! I have the “Best of War” on CD with the radio mix, but it’s been a dream of mine to get the full Arthur Baker remixes!! I love that, Arthur Baker!! As you and the group know all too well, Mr. Baker, John Robie, along with the Latin Rascals, are my musical obsessions!! Paul, I am so stimulated right now!! You’ve made my year for this record!! I’m drooling on the keys of my keyboard,… Read more »
Thank you, Jeff
Paul is going to have to issue a warning label for you Jeff, LOL!!
Ain’t that the truth, Retro Hound! LOL!
