BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1982
“The Damned Don’t Cry” is a song by the British pop group Visage, released as a single by Polydor Records in 1982.
It was the first single from Visage’s second album, The Anvil. “The Damned Don’t Cry” was a chart success, becoming Visage’s second highest-charting single in the UK (#11) and the band’s last international hit.
“The Damned Don’t Cry” was the second Visage video directed by Midge Ure. It was shot in Tenterden, Kent, at the Tenterden Town railway station and recreates the 1930s atmosphere and mood of the Orient Express. The clip was included on band’s 1986 video release, Visage. The model and singer Nick Kamen appears in this video.

In the early (nineteen) eighties; or as I can write “last century”, my teen years had just started and brought requisite angst. I listened to Numan, Visage, Depeche; while others listened to REO Speedwagon, Billy Squier and Styx. In that era, my music choice invited one fight after another (good side of this was I learned to fight very well). So, “Damned Don’t Cry” and “Look What They’ve Done to Me” became personal anthems. I have around 47 Visage releases on CD; official and “somewhat…not”, as tribute to man who deserved more recognition and, in his final years, began to… Read more »
When people ask me what is a prime example of the “best” synthpop song, I’m hard-pressed to pick one, but when I list a few, this makes the list EVERY time. It’s a work of art.
As is your expertise in bringing it to us here, Paul! 🙂
I certainly add my vote for a rip of The Anvil (Night Club School), but REALLY would love a good rip of the Beat Boy 12″, or, even more, the UK Promo 12 with exclusive mixes:

the best version i’ve ever heard!
Addore! Thank you so much!
Love and miss Visage. Thank you!
Great record, Paul. Hadn´t heard Damned in ages. Looking through your archive I am astonished that there´s no Midge Ure 12inch. There is a Fade To Grey live practice version on one of his 12inch records which I love. Maybe it´s on Wastelands? Have to check that later. In any case: HINT HINT 🙂

Song and Dance I did have Mr. Ure posted at one time but was asked by the record label to remove him.
Paul, you are a STAR. Cheers dude.
Thank you Gerry 🙂
Paul you’re fabulous!! That’s for this awesome rip. It’s far better than any of those previous cd versions out there!
You’re welcome Omar 🙂
Always enjoy Visage’s records and videos.
Steve Strange was such a character, he was always entertaining when I watched him on UK Television, I remembered when he was on 3 series of Celebrity Scissorhands (2006 – 2008) and 1 episode of Pop Goes the Band (2009) which reunited only 2 original Visage members Steve Strange and Rusty Egan for a health kick and makeover plus a one-off performance of Fade To Grey.
Fade To Grey is still a great song and The Damned Don’t Cry another fantastic track, great post Paul.
You’re welcome John 🙂
Anything by Visage is always welcome on your site Paul!! And what Walter C mentions up above, is really a testament to what you do with vinyl rips Paul. You have set this high bench-mark of quality that can’t be duplicated anywhere (or at least that’s what I feel). You flat-out amaze me each and every time when I hear a vintage record brought back into our hearing consciousness. Just, WOW!!! Visage was a band that I adored their image and sound. So artistic, so fashionable, so image conscious. They were cool and Steve Strange’s looks really mesmerized me. My… Read more »
Thank you, Jeff. I had completely forgotton about The Anvil. What a great track. Love the remix too.
Thank you Jeff. Hugs 🙂
ATTENTION, “Visage” fans: Do not miss this quality vinyl rip from our hero DjPaulT, all appearances of this version on official CDs are of very poor quality probably because the only available master is highly deteriorated.
Thank you Walter C I appreciate your comment very much. 🙂
