Thompson Twins – Love On Your Side (Rap Boy Rap) (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1983

“Love On Your Side” is a 1983 song by the British pop group Thompson Twins. It was released as the second single from the band’s third studio album, Quick Step and Side Kick, which was renamed Side Kicks in the U.S. (1983).

In 1982, after the commercial failure of their second album Set, the Thompson Twins collaborated with producer Alex Sadkin to record Quick Step and Side Kick. Sadkin produced the album including “Love On Your Side”.

The original lyrics were written by Alannah Currie, but was later altered to that of a male perspective, as Currie wasn’t the lead singer.

It was the band’s first top ten hit, reaching no. 9 in the UK, as well as no. 45 in the US.

The beginning of their Imperial Phase, this song STILL sounds as brilliant as the day it hit the platter.

“You played me all your favourite records!” 😉

Thanks so much Paul!

Thanks for listening to suggestions paul, and you do have ‘love on your side’… by the way, the 7″ had the b-side ‘love on your back’ on it… you may want to track that down also.. if you need help, i have a US and UK version coming in a week or two. this is my all time favorite song from the thompson twins, the video was awesome, MTV was showing this, and ‘lies’ quite a bit when they first came out. The remixes, dubs and instrumentals of this song are near perfect, lots of cool effects, and a real… Read more »

Another Fab Thompson Twins post, Paul. Thompson Twins created some brilliant music in the 1980’s with catchy basslines, rhythmic synths to match those clever lyrics + visually appealing videos and stylish designs on their record sleeves. Don’t Mess with Doctor Dream, We Are Detective, King for a Day, Hold Me Now and of course the excellent Love On Your Side my favourite tracks from this band. Loved watching Thompson Twins & Madonna singing Revolution at Live Aid (July 13th 1985,Philadelphia USA) with Nile Rodgers & Steve Stevens (great line-up). Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie and Joe Leeway were at their most… Read more »

It has to be said the Twins were at their best as a trio! I got into music rather late (about 15) and didn’t particularly favour any kind of music genre until a school mate played me ‘Quick Step and Sidekick’ and that was it! Electronic music all the way! My very first 12″ was ‘Doctor Doctor’, but I was soon on the hunt for the earlier 12″ releases (along with Art of Noise!)
It was a while before I found out that Tom was from my home town of Halifax!

Great and many thanks for listening to my request. Tom’s album should be out before too long! I hope and trust all your great readers and your good self have heard Tom’s 2016 effort, ‘Come so far’ Such a great track. If not, why not?!! Not sure if it’s too late but i have one more request for this second ‘Love week’. I note the only entry here on yuor blog for Sigue Sigue Sputnik is the U.S. 12 of ‘Love missile F1-F11’. I know there were differences between the UK and US version as there were different samples on… Read more »

And the week of love continues!! I just love LOVE!!! And I love this song so much Paul. Like Song_and_Dance, I enjoyed the “In The Name Of Love” dropped in. Very clever. You do such a bang-up job on your rips Paul and the cover art is beautifully preserved. Thank you so much for showcasing this on your blog. Beautiful!!

Thanks Paul. These are all on cd releases though, but possibly your remasters are better! My ears are probably too old to hear the difference but thank you for the almost daily musical surprises over the years! I still keep my hopes up for Private Lives – Living In A World Upside Down, and Vera – Dance With Me, if I had the turn table and the tools I would have done it myself, but I don’t!

“I´m putting on my smiling face”, to misquote from another fabulous TT track. I´ve always loved the awesome bassline from LOYS. Such a great song, great production, great remixes including the funny hint on “In The Name Of Love”. A perfect package.
Love it.
