NEW 2025 Transfer
NEW Meticulous Audio Restoration
Original post date: December 13, 2013
“Dear Santa (Bring Me A Man This Christmas)” is a holiday song recorded by The Weather Girls for their 1983 album Success. Paul Jabara and Paul Shaffer wrote the song. It mixes a Christmas theme with a disco-driven sound that fits the group’s early 1980s dance output.
The track had a quiet release. It was issued in the US and the UK as a promotional single and did not chart. This was the case even though a music video was filmed. As a result, the song remained hard to find and easy to miss during its original run.
The Weather Girls began as Two Tons o’ Fun and featured Izora Armstead and Martha Wash. Both singers brought gospel power and strong presence to the dance floor. The duo scored several dance hits, with their biggest success coming in 1982.
That peak arrived with “It’s Raining Men,” a song that became a defining moment in dance music. “Dear Santa (Bring Me A Man This Christmas)” followed soon after and shows the same mix of humor and confidence, set against a festive backdrop.
For this holiday season, I have given this disco banger a meticulous new audio transfer. It brings new clarity to a track that has long deserved a closer listen.

Thank you Paul. Martha Wash’s voice is always recognizable and stands out.
You’re welcome. Happy Holidays 🎄
I am not picky, just bring me a backup singer… (ducks and leaves)
Lol, I hear you.
Thank you, Paul! Your record collection is truly amazing! This song (and video) is hilarious! The part where it transitions from the ballad intro to the disco part is very reminiscent of “It’s Raining Men”. You also have to wonder if this song inspired “All I Want For Christmas Is You” … either way, it’s definitely going on my permanent Xmas music playlist!
Axel, thank you so much! I’m really glad this one hit the spot for you. That transition from the slow‑burn intro into full‑tilt disco absolutely has that “It’s Raining Men” DNA—Jabara knew exactly how to flip the switch and make a moment out of it. And I love your theory about it inspiring “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Mariah’s team definitely tapped into that same joyful, over‑the‑top holiday sparkle. Thrilled to hear this one earned a spot on your permanent Christmas playlist. That’s the highest honor any festive oddball could hope for. Thanks again for the kind words… Read more »
Have we got news for you! You better listen!… It’s raining vinyl! Hallelujah!! The Weather Girls are so underrated and so great. Still spin It’s Raining Me on a regular basis. This holiday version always cracked me up – thanks for the best versions of it I’ve ever heard Dj Paul!! What a festive treat. Food for thought: first they were dealing with raining men… so shouldn’t there already be plenty? In this track they are asking Santa to bring a man for Christmas but I feel like they should already have more than they need. Unless not many of… Read more »
JP, 😊 this is exactly the kind of logic I love. “It’s raining vinyl! Hallelujah!!” might be the best headline I’ve seen all season. You’re right — The Weather Girls really don’t get enough credit beyond the obvious hit, and this one always felt like a wink to the audience. And yes… if we apply continuity rules, there should already be an excess of men lying around somewhere. The idea that not all of them survived the fall is both dark and strangely on brand for late-night disco humor. Probably wise to treat each song as its own universe 😊 Really… Read more »
Such good campy fun!! Oh how this type of fun is sorely, sorely lacking today. And great to hear Martha Wash, one of the unsung heroes in pop music in the 80s and beyond. I do recall your original post but I’m not familiar with the long mix. I also love the talent behind The Weather Girls – the incomparable Paul Jabara and Paul Shaffer. Thank you Paul for this new transfer! Have a great weekend everybody!
Retro Hound, well said. That sense of campy fun really does feel rare now, and this track leans into it without trying too hard. Martha Wash deserves every bit of that praise. Her voice carried so much 80s pop and dance music, often without her name getting the spotlight it should have. Hearing her here is a reminder of just how strong her presence always was. The long mix is worth the time if you get the chance. It lets the groove settle in and gives the vocals more room to breathe. And you’re right about the talent behind it… Read more »
A perennial favorite of mine! Your rip is perfection!
Thank you so much. I appreciate your kind words. 🎄
The Weather Girls, the duo composed of Martha Wash and Izora Armstead, began their career as backup singers for disco legend Sylvester. The lyrics are a direct and humorous letter to Santa Claus. Unlike traditional Christmas songs that ask for peace or material gifts, they have a clear and urgent request: they need romantic companionship for the holidays. ♪Dear Santa, I’ve been a good girl all year long… so bring me a man this Christmas! “Dear Santa” has remained a staple on “Alternative Christmas” playlists. It’s a celebration of singlehood with humor, strength, and plenty of sparkle. Thanks, Paul, for… Read more »
Ruben, thank you for laying that out so well. You’re right — their time with Sylvester shaped so much of what came later, both in sound and attitude. That lyric really does say it all. It flips the usual holiday wish list into something direct and funny, without losing warmth. It’s playful, but there’s confidence behind it too. I like how you describe it as a celebration of singlehood. That’s exactly why it still works on alternative Christmas playlists. It doesn’t try to be sentimental. It just owns its point of view. Thanks for listening and for such a thoughtful… Read more »
This song caps off an incredible week of very special records. I love this song from The Weather Girls’ album, “Success.” These two women have phenomenal voices and had an excellent songwriter and producer in Paul Jabara! I hate that he’s gone (along with Izora Armstead) because of their immense talents. Thank you, Paul, for a truly great and memorable holiday chestnut! You’ve always outdid yourself with terrific Christmas offerings throughout the years! I wish you a wonderful weekend, Paul!! Have a great and super weekend too, to, Retro Hound, Song _and_Dance, Martika, JP, Fred, Axel, ING, DJ Xray, Ruben,… Read more »
Thanks Jeff. The same to you, and I hope you have a great time.
Hey thanks Jeff, much appreciated 🙂
Hope you have a great one yourself!!
Jeff, thank you — that really means a lot. You’re absolutely right about the voices. Izora Armstead and Martha Wash brought real power and personality to everything they touched, and Paul Jabara knew exactly how to write for them. The loss of both Paul and Izora still feels heavy when you hear how alive this music remains. I’m glad this one felt like a fitting way to close out the week. It’s a holiday record with character, and those are the ones that tend to stick. Thanks for the kind words about the Christmas posts over the years. I appreciate… Read more »
