The Voice In Fashion – Give Me Your Love (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1988

-DjPaulT Recommended 12″

“Give Me Your Love” is the second single released by freestyle duo The Voice In Fashion. Produced by Lewis A. Martineé of Exposé fame, “Give Me Your Love” hit the number 29 spot on Billboard magazines Dance chart in September 1988 becoming the duo’s second charting dance single, the first being “Only In The Night” which reached #1 (1986).

Their success resulted in international acclaim and extensive touring. At this point the group was riding a high in its short history and sang background on The Pet Shop Boys Domino Dancing and were invited to tour Europe however other obligations did not permit the tour.

The “Love Mix” is listed on the sleeve and labels as a separate track it is actually mixed continuously into the “Extended Mix”. To preserve the continuity of the original 12″ I decided not to separate the two tracks leaving it as one 9:11 mix.

Hi DJ Paul, my Billboard Dance Club Play chart book shows “Only In the Night” went to #8 (not #1). Which source of yours shows #1 ?

This has Lewis Martineé’s signature sound all over….like Exposé….I love the editing done back in the days..massive tape spicing at its best. I miss Chep Nuñes….although he didn’t edit this one, he did edit about 80% of the freestyle hits from the 80’s.

Thank you Paul for posting!!!

Almost forgot. One of the driving forces behinf the sound of this record and Only In The Night is a Miami musician named Ony. He is the guy behind the project The Beat Club and their international freestyle/bass smash Security.

Wow Paul, I just recently got this record, it jumped out at me because of the PSB connection. It is definitely a lost classic from that era. I can’t wait to hear your work here. Thank You.

This sounds amazing, and you’re right it really does sound like a lot like Information Society (Running)as well as the Base Mix of Domino Dancing. It makes me with PSB had done more with Lewis A. Martineé.

I almost forgot to mention that one of the reasons this record is so HOT is because of Lewis A. Martineé. This man can do no wrong in my book. He was responsible for Dead Or Alive’s “Come Home With Me Baby” and those fierce productions by Expose!! You’re so breathtakingly brilliant Paul for posting this bombastic club record. I will have gooseflesh for days because of what you just did. It’s great to get excited. “Aural Sex” for sure!!!!

As so often I agree with Jeff in large parts (his “part” obviously being larger than mine :-))
The edits made me think of “What´s On Your Mind” by Information Society, too. The first 30 seconds made me think of the “base mix” of “Domino Dancing”. A wild mixture of hits and styles, really, and not bad at all. New to me, needless to say, and a nice treat. Thank you.

And thank you Jeff. You made me laugh 🙂

Song_and_Dance, I am thrilled to pieces that you like this record as well. It just make me smile and get full of pride when others enjoy the same music as I do. I tell Paul all the time, that sometimes I feel so alone in the music I enjoy, but then there is him, and now you. I feel validated in liking what I like. I am still at work and won’t get a chance to listen to this until later on this weekend as I’ll be away from home for tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. I’m only dreaming of the… Read more »

PAUL!!! I almost wet myself (and with various fluids, yellow and white!) after I saw this record come into view!!!! I am in MULTI-ORGAMIC state right now!! This record should have been a massive hit and I do not understand why it went un-noticed. The Voice In Fashion, I adore. They provided the background vocals on the chorus for Pet Shop Boys’ “Domino Dancing” and had a big hit in the clubs with their own, “Only In The Night.” They remind me of a Latin Information Society in a way. I love the pulses and major beats. They almost are… Read more »
