The Romantics – Talking In Your Sleep (Special Remix) (Europe 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1983

“Talking in Your Sleep” is a chart-topping hit song by Detroit rock band The Romantics. It was a #3 U.S. hit in early 1984 and became a UK hit in August that year for British band Bucks Fizz. It ultimately became a hit throughout the world, and was the group’s most successful song.

The song is in natural minor.

The song appeared on the Romantics’ 1983 album In Heat and was the Romantics’ biggest chart hit, garnering substantial radio airplay and a million in US 45 RPM single sales.

The song reached #3 – where it held for three weeks – on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1984. It also went to #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, as well as hitting the top of Billboard’s Album Rock Tracks chart.

In Australia, “Talking in Your Sleep” climbed to #14 on the Australian Singles Chart (Kent Music Report)

It was featured in the first episode of the second season of the Netflix series Stranger Things, playing on a car radio.

hi paul,

welcome back from your break.

nice rock selection for a track. i remember hearing the regular version quite a bit
on pop stations. once in a while the rock stations would play it also.

i think i only heard the remix a few times, so it’s nice to get it now.
also thanks for the instrumental. its good to use to extend the song to
make it a little bit longer.

well even though this record was played a lot on the radio.

at least it wasn’t played to death like ‘what i like about you’,
which even now, gets played constantly at sporting events and such.

i dont think there was a remix of that song. they had another
song ‘one in a million’ that came after ‘talking in your sleep’,
but i never heard that one which was remixed.

…actually thinking the tracks are the same but the US release isn’t identified as a ‘Special Remix’…but it does say “Special versions from the Nemperor LP “IN HEAT” B6Z 38880.” on the sleeve.

Paul not sure this is truly a Re-Rip as the previous rip of this I have from you is not the same 12″. You previously posted a rip of the US release Nemperor Records – 4Z9 04203 and I think the A-side tracks are different…?

45RPM! Man, I really wished more artists/labels released 12″ singles at 45. The quality (for those who don’t know) is much better than 33 1/3. My Peter Gabriel Sledgehammer 12″ sounds amazing, for example.

I can’t wait to download this today and play the new rip vs. the old rip. Obviously there are many factors…different 12″, different RPM, and different equipment.

Thank again, Paul!

Thanks, Paul! Such a great song and it just seemed to live forever wherever I went for years.

I remember getting the remix on an old 2-vinyl compilation: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Number-One-On-The-Streets/master/251161 Definitely look at the track times for the other songs!

Just looking at the vinyl cover now instantly takes me back to my house where I grew up.

Thanks again!

Wow, Fred!! You took me back to this LP. I had the same one, but I was always disappointed with my pressing. Such a great selection, but the sound quality wasn’t too great on the copy I had. Loads of great music and I especially loved “Jeopardy”!! Thanks for reminding me of this fantastic album!!

The sound quality was fair on my copy too. I think there was a slight skip on it, too. On a totally unrelated note, I kept all my vinyl (about 5000 pieces) in order of when I purchased them…completely opposite of how djs keep their vinyl in BPM order. However, I could find any piece of vinyl instantly in my 20+ crates of music. Seriously…I had photographic memory of their location and often could win bets with friends finding a song blindfolded. I also never wrote or altered the vinyl or cover in any way…no stickers, labels, magic marker, nothing.… Read more »

Hey Paul!! So great to have you back posting. I hope you had a nice break and all; really did miss you. Such fond memories of this song by The Romantics. The album that this is culled from was a staple at the Fraternity parties I attended back in college. It seemed every song was a winner. And I really loved this remix by Jellybean. His mixes always made the original song so much better. He and a few other remixers from this time period always kept the integrity of the original song intact but gave it an extra special… Read more »
