he Mission (known as The Mission UK in the United States were a gothic rock band formed in 1986 from the splinters of the freshly-dissolved rock band The Sisters of Mercy.
The Mission was started by frontman Wayne Hussey and bassist Craig Adams .The first success for Hussey came when he joined Dead or Alive at the request of frontman Pete Burns. After Burns retreated to become more studio-based Hussey decided to leave and was offered a position with The Sisters of Mercy, concentrating on 12-string and 6-string guitars. When the Sisters of Mercy disbanded, Hussey and bassist Craig Adams set up The Mission, recruiting Mick Brown on drums and Simon Hinkler on guitars. Aside from Hussey, the line-up has changed several times during the years.

Thank you very much Paul.
Amazing – thank you Paul!
Can’t beat a bit of The Mish!
Classic 12″! Thank you!
Their best single imho.
BTW. i got an Audio glitch on the “Dance Mix” on the 24bit FLAC at 2:57. Sounds like the record jumps . 16 bit has a glitch at 1:51. on the same track. May be it didnt download properly or may be its corrupt file or may be its my duff hearing ? I’ll try again later. Just posting this in case other folk hear the same thing.
Vim, I can’t confirm the audio glitch. I have checked the 24/96 file optically and acoustically with Izotope RX10 and Wavelab 11. No issues with that file. Maybe your download is corrupt?!
Btw.: Thanks Paul for the upload.
Many thanks !! this one -along with the Psychedelic Furs’ “All That Money Wants” were my two favourite singles of the era. Really appreciated !
Another great one! You’re on a total roll lately, thank you!
You’re welcome 🙂
Adapted from Marian by the Sisters, Wayne wrote the music to it, then changed it slightly to become wasteland. They often mix it in live
Actually, I know this band because of Miami Vice TV series!
I have your Pro-Ject Debut III vinyl rip, shared on March 29th, 2010
Thank you very much Paul for a new rip!!!
I had forgotten that I did rip this over a decade ago. Oh well hope you like the fresh transfer better 🙂
I always have to rejoice whenever you go Alternative on your site. Love these dance rock/gothic/new wave songs, Paul! I’m loving the theme this week. Please, if you can, keep it going for a bit more. I so love what you love, and it seems, others do too!! You positively ROCK!!!
Jeff
I do love my alternative/new wave that’s for sure. Thanks Jeff for always being pleased no matter what I come up with 🙂
I agree! I love these remixes of rock/goth/metal songs! EDM songs and pop songs with electronic beats tend to just add some extra beats to the end and in the mid-section (at least in the 80s) but generally sound the same as the single versions. But with rock/goth/metal songs, it changes the entire feel of the song.
Hi Paul,
WOW! another great release, from an alternate Rock band,
i loved this single when it came out. this and ‘severina’.
very cool to see this. and as you mentioned ‘the sisters of mercy’
had a lot of good releases too.
keep it up, love the theme.

You’re welcome. The lead vocalist Wayne Hussey was also a member of Dead Or Alive.
One of my all-time favorite bands. A perfect mix of Depeche and Led Zeppelin – with just enough of a hint of Talk Talk and Simple Minds!
Excellent share! Can’t wait to compare it to my existing rip.
THANK YOU!
You’re welcome, Martika 🙂
I didn’t think that Andrew Eldritch considered the Sisters disbanded, but that these 2 had defected, even first attempting to name themselves after a SOM fan mag The Sisterhood, so Andrew beat them to the punch, releasing an album called Gift under the name first…so they rebranded themselves The Mission, partially taken from the title of the SOM album they had been working on. Andrew went onward with The Sisters Of Mercy name and released 2 more albums, and performs live still including new material although no new songs have appeared for sale for decades.
Thanks for the info.
😃 At the end of day, in retrospect, The Mission is a much more successful band. Tons of albums compared to The Sisters. I do remember being floored in High School seeing Wayne in the back cover of the Sophisticated Boom Boom lp. Seemed so not goth! Haha. Of course, we loved both!
Well, you forget that Dead Or Alive started out as a goth/alternative/post-punk band until Stock Aitken Waterman changed them forever.
Ah, but we didn’t know that at the time! 😃. I didn’t find that out until the internet became a daily fixture in our lives!!! As a teenager they were the band that did You Spin Me Round & covered KC & the Sunshine Band! ❤️
so true … lol … also never heard the term “new romantic” until decades later
Now I had heard that term in the ‘80’s, but it confused me as besides maybe Spandau Ballet, most of the songs that got that label slapped on them weren’t very “romantic.”!!!
I still don’t really understand that label! 😆
