The Cure – Hot Hot Hot !!! (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1988

“Hot Hot Hot!!!” was the fourth single released from the album Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me by British band The Cure. In early 1988, it spent three weeks in the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 45 on 20 February of that year. In the United States, the song reached number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100, while a remix of the track by François Kevorkian charted at numbers 11 and 50 on the Dance Music/Club Play Singles and the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales charts, respectively. It reached its highest chart position in Spain, peaking at number 8; the song was also a hit in Ireland, spending two weeks there and making number 18 on 18 February 1988. It spent three weeks on the Dutch charts, reaching number 79 there. As with many other singles, the video was directed by Tim Pope, and has been described as “intentionally ridiculous”. Filmed in black and white, it featured the band as “dwarves” dressed in 1950’s clothes.

I was just singing this song to myself today! I wanted to dig out the CD but you seem to have beat me to it. Of course, your rip gives me the ability to listen to the flipside…

Thanks so much Paul!

Wow, what an unexpected treat!

Also, not my favourite Cure song, I do wonder what on earth Robert Smith was on when he came up with this, but it’s not a bad single nonetheless. And I guess it’s not too far away from Why Can’t I Be You? (a single from the same album) to the casual ear.

Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and its predecessor The Head On The Door are two of the greatest albums of all time. Each so complete.

Paul, you and I always seem to have these personal synchronicities between us. I had this song on my mind last evening. Now you post the very track I was thinking about. Just incredible! This song is “Hot!” and I’m really pleased to have your rip of it. I do have it on CD, but you always seem to make tracks I love sound better than I know. What you do daily is certainly a labor of love and the results are more than stellar. I just love singing your praises LOUDLY, to anyone who will listen. It’s such a… Read more »

Paul, this is a treat!! Never heard the extended version of “Hey You!!!” and I’m going nuts over it. I love the mentioning of Christmas in it too. How appropriate since the season is upon us. You really know how to celebrate holidays around here!!

I freely admit I´m not a big fan. Somehow their music never really spoke to me – with the exception of “Lullaby” (of course) and “Love Cats” (sneered at by The Cure fans, I suppose). Those two I have on 12inch. That being said, I find the extended remix of “Hot Hot Hot” truly awesome. What a great song, so funky. And it makes me think of INXS´ “Need You Tonight”. That would make a great mash-up. The two singles before “Hot” – “Just Like Heaven” and “Catch” do not ring a bell either, so… hint hint 🙂 Love it,… Read more »

I was obsessed with this song. I was trying to record it on tape from radio broadcast. It was a rough time trying to do this. The result was bad at least. Then came “Mixed Up”, but the sound on it was murky, flat and lifeless.
Thank you for posting.
