The Belle Stars – Indian Summer (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1983

REQUEST

“Indian Summer” is a 1983 song by English pop/new wave band The Belle Stars, released as their fifth and final single from their only self-titled studio album and their ninth single overall. The song peeked at #52 for three weeks on the UK singles chart.

Indian Summer is a song about a lover had for a day. The songs chorus: “We were lovers for a day; never again will it ever be that way” likely talks about how the band only had one hit and it never seemed to resurface them. Many of the band also believed that the single caused a rivalry with Bananarama’s Cruel Summer.

Thanks for the post! Very interested to see that the B-Side is remixed by the guys from I-Level, who had a Top 5 R&B & underground club hit in the States with one of my all time fave tracks “Give Me.” That track was subsequently sampled by Lost Boyz & A Tribe Called Quest. Any chance you have any I-Level laying about? Thanks Paul. Keep up the great work.

One of my favorite songs by a terribly underrated and unfortunately short-lived band—thanks, Paul!

What a delightful surprise Paul! I love the Belle Stars. Even the title gives some of us who are suffering through this Winter Season, appreciate the sound of an “Indian Summer.” You always come up with the perfect songs to reflect moods, wants and wishes. This was so excellent of you to honor this request too. You are our “Patron Saint of Dance Discs” Paul. It’s so great to give you the adoration you so deserve by having us leave comments for you.
