Taka Boom was later member of the Norman Whitfield-produced group The Undisputed Truth (way after their 1971 hit “Smiling Faces Sometimes”, Billboard R&B #2; Hot 100 #3, AC #34). She was on their 1976 disco hit “You + Me = Love” (a monster #5 club hit) on Whitfield’s label.

I just LOVE the idea of DISCO Fridays! I have this 12″ – bought it together with “To Hell With Him” back in the day. Nice cover version for the dancefloor. Do you have (by any chance) the 12″ disco remix of Chicago’s “Street Player” (or the 7″)? Trying to get hold of any of the two, but the prices at Discogs are simply CRAZY! I only have the U.S. LP… Many thanks for this excellent rip, Paul! Have a nice week-end, Paul and all you members of BTG! 🙂

if it’s the same as the 8:40 minute Dance mix, than it was included in the expanded edition of “13”

Hi martika,
I know, but I hate loud CD “remasters”, I prefer Vinyl (=good dynamics, warm sound, far better mastering). There’s also a 7″ edit (around 5 min) but it’s also pretty expencive. Have a great weekend 🙂

I hear ya! It’s painfully obvious when I compare one of Paul’s rips to a “remastered” version!

Hi RtrHG,

You can find a stellar version of this song on Ben Liebrand’s Grand 12-inches series. It’s on volume 11. Hope this helps.

Jeff

Hi RtrHG, Thanks for the detailed response concerning the Ben Liebrand series. I have the entire collection myself and haven’t had any issue as far as the “loudness” goes, but I can appreciate what you’ve said about it. I really need to try and sign up for the bonus content downloads too. I found it fascinating with what you said about “Street Life”. Now that’s incredible. I love audiophiles like you that have these golden ears. Paul is like that, and he does such a phenomenal job with what he does. Thank you again, RtrHG, for your additional insight about… Read more »

Hi Jeff, Yeah, I have all Ben Liebrand’s 12” collections, although he’s more “polite” to music than most remixers/engineers of today, he still follows the “loudness wars” (not always his fault, depends on the masters he could find). Sometimes he discovers (by chance) some versions that are different or unreleased (those are gems) and most of the times when he releases “extras” as downloads for previous compilations, you can find original “untouched” masters with beautiful sound. One of them was the 12″ disco version of Crusaders “Street Life”. The one included in the extra downloads is quiet and pristine in… Read more »

Disco! Disco!! Disco!!! DISCO!!!! Hoo! Hoo!! Hoo!!! HOO!!!! I love this, Paul!! Seeing the “Prelude” label appear on my computer screen really got me pumping!! Such a wonderful and influential label from back in the day!! When I was record shopping all those years ago, certain record labels were a definite purchase for me. I had no idea that, Taka Boom, was related to, Chaka Kahn!! I guess great singing voices run in the family! And here’s a remake I can’t wait to hear. WOW!! What a cover version to behold. Thank you for this incredible surprise, Paul!! Have a… Read more »

Used to have a 12” vinyl many moons ago and would just looove me a 24-bit FLAC of a 12” vinyl. Please? Love your blog, your knowledge of HQ-Audio processing, and your taste in music. You are special. Anyone claiming otherwise can GFHS. Take care and thank you for all you do for us here!

Thanks for your reply DJ Paul! I had no idea Spank was a rare gem nowadays. Shoulda kept that 12” but I sold all my vinyls in late 80s, thousands of them, and been trying to replace them with CDs ever since, some never been able to – not to this day, and possibly never will be. Wish I had this experience/knowledge about Hi-Fi and Hi-Res back in the 80s. Don’t we all?
