Paul McCartney – No More Lonely Nights (US 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1984

“No More Lonely Nights” is a song written and performed by Paul McCartney, first released on 24 September 1984, on Give My Regards to Broad Street.

The song features David Gilmour from Pink Floyd on guitars including the soaring solos and fills throughout the song. Reflecting upon the recording in a radio interview before 1990’s Knebworth concerts, Gilmour told Jim Ladd that “No More Lonely Nights” was the last thing McCartney recorded for the film (late 1983/early 1984), and that he told McCartney to give his session fee to a charity of his choice.

“No More Lonely Nights” reached number 6 in the US and number 2 in the UK.

“Silly Love Songs” is a re-recording of the soundtrack to the motion picture Give My Regards to Broad Street. The original version was released in 1976 by Paul McCartney and Wings.

Michael Damian – Rock On (US 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1989

NEW 2024 Transfer!
NEW Meticulous Audio Restoration!

Originally posted August 2, 2010

“Rock On” is a song written by English singer David Essex. Recorded in 1973 and released as a single by Essex, it became an international hit.

In 1989 “Rock On” was covered by soap opera star and singer Michael Damian, and featured in the teen film Dream a Little Dream, starring Corey Haim and Corey Feldman among others. Damian’s version, which he also released from his independent album Where Do We Go from Here on the Cypress Records label, was a harder-edged interpretation that employed none of the vocal or instrumental distortion in the original 1973 David Essex version.

“Rock On” became Damian’s first hit in eight years, since his 1981 cover of Eric Carmen’s song “She Did It”. His rendition became a gold record. It reached the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, thus outperforming Essex’s original Billboard ranking. However, the song did get to number one for Essex in 1974 on the US Cashbox Top 100, in the same week it was at number 11 on the Billboard charts. In addition, Haim, Feldman, and Meredith Salenger all appeared in Damian’s music video for the song. This version was ranked number 99 on VH1’s 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 80s (even though Damian had four Billboard-charting singles during the 1980s).

I created a custom sleeve for this release.

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1979

“Feel The Need” is a hit song originally recorded by the American R&B group Detroit Emeralds in 1972 titled “Feel The Need In Me”. The group re-recorded the song and re-released a disco version in 1977 as “Feel the Need”.

In 1979 American singer Leif Garrett released a cover of the song from his second studio LP of the same name. “Feel The Need” was the follow-up to his top ten single “I Was Made For Dancin ” released in October 1978. “Feel The Need” peaked at #57 on the U.S. Billboard Singles chart on June 2, 1979, after spending eight weeks on the survey. The single reached #38 in the U.K. “Feel The Need” represented the last success on the pop charts for Leif Garrett who had an 18-month run with several singles and two albums.

The b-side “New York City Nights” is a non-album track.

Andy Summers – 2010 (US 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1984

“2010” is a 1984 single released by the guitarist for the band The Police, Andy Summers for the soundtrack of the film 2010: The Year We Make Contact.

“2010” was a modern new-wave pop version of Richard Strauss’s Also Sprach Zarathustra (the main theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey). Though Summers’ recording was included on the soundtrack album and released as a single, it was not used in the film. For the B-side to the single, Summers recorded another 2010-based track entitled “To Hal and Back”, though this appeared in neither the film nor the soundtrack album.
