Modern Rocketry – Homosexuality (Germany 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1985

TOTALLY OBSCURE 80S!

Modern Rocketry was a hi-NRG disco band featuring Ken Kessie, active from 1983 to 1988. They’re not very well known – in fact, they’re downright obscure – but what little fame they enjoyed was probably due to their 1985 release, best described as the gayest disco song ever. Homosexuality, with its b-side of ‘Thank God For Men’, followed in the well-trodden footsteps of Patrick Cowley’s Menergy and Boystown Gang’s ‘Cruising In The Streets’ with massive gay audience appeal. A hit in gay clubland.

Other notable songs include ‘(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone’ and ‘Deeper N Deeper’, none of which, it has to be said, has quite the show-stopping charm of a song whose main chorus is ‘Homosexuality… Yes sir! Do you wanna get next to me?’. Oh, and the Pet Shop Boys did a live cover of it at a pride event in 1992.

Pet Shop Boys – In The Night (7″ Edit Version) (Limited Edition Germany 7″ Promo)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1987

NEW 2023 Transfer
NEW Meticulous Audio restoration

Originally posted November 18, 2016

“In the Night” is a song by UK duo Pet Shop Boys, about the subculture known as the Zazous, which appeared in France during the German occupation of France in World War II; concerned with fashion and music, and allied with neither the Nazis and Vichy France nor the French Resistance, they were distrusted by both sides. Neil Tennant, having read about the movement in a book by David Pryce-Jones, asks, in the song, the question of whether this apathy essentially amounted to collaborationism.

The song was scheduled to be released as a single in Germany on March 4, 1987, but was withdrawn with only a 7″ promo being issued. The Artur Baker 7″ edit is exclusive to this release and has never appeared on CD to the best of my knowledge. The full Arthur Baker mix appeared on the album “DISCO”.

The same mix appears on both sides.

Midnight Star – No Parking (On The Dance Floor) (Remix) (Germany 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1985

Celebrating BLACK HISTORY MONTH

“No Parking (On the Dance Floor)” is the 1983 title track from Midnight Star’s fourth and most successful album, No Parking on the Dance Floor. In the US, the song reached number 43 on the R&B chart, number 44 on the dance chart, and number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song has been sampled by several artists since its 1983 release, including Sugar Ray’s song from 2003, “Mr. Bartender (It’s So Easy)”. The basic melody was sampled by the Bar-Kays in their 1984 hit “Freakshow on the Dance Floor” and in Popula Demand’s 1988 song “Don’t Clock Me”.

In 1985 a special 12″ was released in Germany which included new remixes of “No Parking On The Dance Floor”, and “Planetary Invasion”.
