“Hell on Wheels” is a disco song performed by American singer-actress Cher from her sixteenth studio album, Prisoner. It was written by Bob Esty and Michele Aller and produced by Esty. It was released as the album’s first and only international single in late 1979. The song was also added to the Roller Boogie soundtrack in 1979. Lyrically, the track is about “follow what you like”.

The song was released with “Git Down (Guitar Groupie)” on its B-side. Strangely “Git Down (Guitar Groupie)” in the Japanese single was a “Theme from Roller Boogie”, despite the song never appearing in the movie or the soundtrack album.

Despite a worldwide commercial release, “Hell on Wheels” did not achieve any success other than charting only on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at a disappointing number fifty-nine. “Hell On Wheels” was also her last hit for Casablanca Records.

The video for “Hell on Wheels” was tough for Cher to shoot. She was required to skate down steep, mountainous roads while sporting a broken arm. In the video, Cher is roller skating and being followed by a huge truck driven by two men who use the truck’s maximum speed to catch up with her. Following this, Cher convinces many people who use different types of transportation to follow her and take a ride with her.

The video was premiered on the late-night NBC television show The Midnight Special. Promotional clips were also shown during a 1979 interview with Phil Donahue on The Phil Donahue Show. Despite “Hell on Wheels” being her first official music video, it was never released on The Very Best of Cher: The Video Hits Collection.

Cher – Take Me Home (US 12″ Promo)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1979

DISCO FRIDAY
Re-Rip Newly Remastered!

Originally I posted this one in September, 2011. But for those who may have missed it or if you are a new reader just discovering BTG. I decided to give this one a new rip with my newer Ortofon 30 stylus. This 12″ is also being posted in 24 bit flac for the very first time!

“Take Me Home” is the name of a song written by producers Bob Esty and Michele Aller. The song was originally recorded by Cher.

“Take Me Home” was originally recorded by American singer and actress, Cher. The song was released as a single in 1979 and became Cher’s first top ten single in the United States in five years, since “Dark Lady” in 1974. It would be her last for almost another decade, until “I Found Someone” in late 1987. “Take Me Home” hit #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, #21 on the Hot Soul Singles chart and #2 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. The single also charted in Canada and Norway, peaking at #10 and #9 respectively. In 1979, the RIAA awarded Cher with a Gold certification for the album for sales of over 500,000, and a Gold certification for the single for sales of over 1,000,000.

The b-side “Wasn’t It Good” was released as the second single from Cher’s 1979 album Take Me Home. Wasn’t It Good was officially released in the United States, but in places such as the United Kingdom and Canada the song was only released a promo. The song did enter the Billboard Hot 100, however it was not as successful as its predecessor. The song became a minor hit peaking at number forty-nine.

Cher – I Found Someone (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

REQUEST

“I Found Someone” is the name of a chart single originally written and composed for Laura Branigan by Michael Bolton and Touch keyboardist Mark Mangold. The song was a bigger hit for Cher in 1987, reaching the Top 10.

The most successful version was released by American singer/actress Cher as the first U.S. and European single from her nineteenth album, “Cher” and was released on November 19, 1987 by Geffen.

The song debuted on the UK Singles Chart in November 1987 at number 91 and peaked at number five in January 1988 and spent thirteen weeks in the chart.

Part of a much-heralded musical comeback at the height of her movie career, a big-budget music video featured the singer-actress with her then-boyfriend Rob Camilletti. The couple were a big story in the tabloids at the time, as he was seventeen years her junior, and the video was the aspiring actor’s debut. The video was in heavy rotation on MTV and Cher’s version went to #10 in the U.S. and to #5 in the UK. An alternative concert video features Cher in a dress that was also used in The Black Rose Show in 1980.

“I Found Someone” began a three-album association with Bolton and Cher’s other contributors, including Branigan alumnus Diane Warren as well as Jon Bon Jovi and future boyfriend Richie Sambora, and their song-writing partner Desmond Child.
