Taffy – Love My Radio (Midnight Radio) (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

Side A

“I Love My Radio (Midnight Radio)” is a single by American Italo disco singer Taffy, first released in 1985. It was produced by Italian record producer Claudio Cecchetto. The song was a huge hit in Italy and the United Kingdom, and was also a hit in several countries in Europe. In the United Kingdom, the single was released in 1986 and peaked at #6 on the UK Singles Chart in early 1987. In the US the song debuted on the Billboard dance chart on April, 19, 1986 spending ten weeks on the survey peaking at #6.

The song is about a radio disc jockey broadcasting in the early hours. However, as very few radio stations in the UK broadcast after midnight in the 1980s, this reference in the record was changed, and the UK version was re-recorded and retitled as “I Love My Radio (Dee Jay’s Radio).

Was about to needledrop this last night. 😆
I’ve been recording my Italo collection for a month now.
So far I had finished restoring the following:

Life Dance – Sonia Belolo
Storia – Michael Copson
Six, Two, Eight – Karisma
My Heart Keeps Burning – Blind Date

Don’t mind if I add this to my collection. Italo disco is such a guilty pleasure for me.
Thanks for the share! Love your work and blog!

Wow, you couldn’t have picked a better week to put so many great songs on the blog. If I had to pick a favorite song, or even make a top 10, I don’t think I could, but this one would definitely be in the top 5. I seldom take the time to post comments anymore, but this week I have been really down, and everything you have posted for us just can’t let me stay blue. When I first heard this song on a mix tape someone made for me almost 25 years ago, I didn’t even know who Taffy… Read more »

A rather avoidable record,as almost it is for all Cecchetto productions.
Don’t understand all the hype and enthusiasm of the people, really. One of worst Italo Disco songs ever! And I’m from Italy too, just to be clear.

It’s nothing against you Paul,of course.

Oh my God!
You have also this song!
In Italy (I’m from Italy,Paul) was an incredible club track, also because
the producer Claudio Cecchetto was the owner of Radio Dee Jay (based in Milan)
and the mind of DJ Television on air on Italia 1 TV every day.
The track has a synth bridge that reminds the same on Dominic Troiano “We all need love” 7″
that I miss. Hope that one day you will rip it!

Thx.

I remember this well, it was very popular in the clubs around here, as it was with all the Italo-Disco stuff. Haven’t heard this for years, but the lyrics are still so catchy!
This Italian producers really knew their trade, real craftsmanship.

OMG adore this song. Still remember the 1987 UK TV performance of this on Top of the pops where she was dressed head to toe in bright orange shaking those hands like crazy. Think it was the late Mike Smith who introduced her from the balcony. Funny i can’t remeber things from last week nowadays! This replaces an inferior rip (i know and don’t need to check this fact) i currently have on my hard drive since 2013 that i picked up from somewhere. Many thanks

I think i’m right in saying that there are UK 7 and 12″ mixes of this. Furthermore this track was released as early as 1985 with the lyrics ‘My DJ’s radio’ as opposed to ‘Midnight radio’. Do you by chance have any other versions at all to post? I really do love this track!

This song makes my mind go back to all the good times I recall. lol

There are literally hundreds of mixes of this song (radio edits, house remixes, etc)
I’ve been searching for the definitive version and I think the U.S.A Mix is the ONE!
Thank you DjPaul 🙂

So love this song. You’ve done it again as always. Massive thanks for this. Been trying desperately to find a couple of 12″ I so fondly love. If you come across them Paul, I would be more than happy to pay for them… Contract of the Heart – Spelt like This Cry, Cry, Cry – Two Minds Crack I am also having problems finding a rare long 11min version of You Take Me Up by The Thompson Twins and the 12″ dogmatix mix of Lean on Me. Same again i’m more than happy to contribute towards costs if you should… Read more »

Awesome Paul. They are such good songs and I can remember playing them constantly when they were released. Brilliant you can get Red Box as well. I think the The 11 min version of “You Take Me Up” was the regular 12″ over here in the UK, though I’m not too sure. The mix contained 3 segments. the first being the standard song followed by the instrumental part called “Machines Take Over” and then finally merging into another instrumental segment called “Down Tools”. In total the mix ran for over 11mins30secs. That’s all I can really tell you, but I… Read more »

Italo, yes! A favourite of mine too. This song always makes me happy, even after all these years.
Celso Valli is a famous arranger in Italy, still does many recordings (for example Eros Ramazzotti and Laura Pausini). And Claudio Cecchetto did many many Italo productions (Sandy Marton will ring a bell). So a rather famous team here.
Grazie Paulo per questo disco. Molto bello!

Weeeeee!! This is the perfect follow-up to Alisha’s “All Night Passion” Paul!! Another great electro-pop confection!! I’ve been singing this lately for no apparent reason, except inserting my cats’ names into the lyrics. Yeah, I know, pretty bizarre, but it does seem to fit. Thanks Paul for another song from my youth. You’re on a roll. Actually, everyday you’re on a roll. I just love what you love so much.

Excited (BIG TIME)!!!!
