BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986
“Twilight World” was the second US release from the album It’s Better to Travel. This song was the subject of many remixes and was a dance club favourite worldwide. The song’s debut on the US dance chart was on December 19, 1987. After spending ten weeks on the survey the song peaked at #10 making it Swing Out Sisters highest charting dance single in the US.
The original title for this song was “Tomorrow’s Dream”.
According to drummer Martin Jackson the song was “taught” to him by aliens after a UFO landed on his roof.
The beginning of the song is the Shibuya train terminal announcer in Tokyo!

Big fun! CHEERS. 🙂
Thanks DjPaulT!
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
I don’t think I’ve heard this since I had the cassingle back in the day! LOL
another gr8 song. bringin’ that song is like going back in time and remember just good things that happened in my life…a brazilian hug 4ya, Dj Pault
Thanks Paul for the extra mixes. I too have this 12″ single, but my vinyl rip is poor as compared to yours . Thanks again !
“Puality”…I like that! Isn’t it amazing how you bring us from all different parts of the globe together every day with your wonderful music? Very unique and special daily experience to us BTGers! So thank you, Sir Paul! This 12” Remix is the BEST version of the song. SOS is under-appreciated in the UK…Can you imagine they only have two Top 20 singles, and that’s it?!?!? Japan loves them BEST! BTW, I have no problem you using the trivia…and here’s a couple more to add. The album It’s Better To Travel is about “how it’s great fun pretending to be… Read more »
Thanks for all of the great trivia Ric I don’t know how you find it but I truly appreciate it and i’m sure the BTG readers do too 🙂
My pleasure Paul, I’ve collected these music trivia throughout the 80s and 90s, mostly from magazine articles and interviews.
The information I have copied and attached to their respective singles and album, as a nice accompanying read whenever I listen to these songs.
So they are actually “real time” information/quotes and not current recollections.
And whatever relevant trivia I can contribute here, that’s my little way of saying thanks to you.
Muchas gracias Pault por estos singles de swing out sister, estan super
De nada Carlos 🙂
Thanks Paul! After yesterday’s SOS Remix post, I pulled out the US 12″. Of course you posted that today! I was hoping you’d get to it before I had to record it myself…lol! All the best as usual!
You’re welcome Mr. Feutz 🙂
Big big thank you, Paul.
You’re welcome Victor 🙂
Such a classy band. I love the brass and jazzy feel to Swing Out Sister. I am so pleased with these past three days of S.O.S. Paul, like Stefano said above, I love the “Paulity” of it all. Your remasters are, like MusicMan3 says, they are “absolutely immaculate!” And that is your genius! I swoon over your work. You come to the rescue, lovingly restoring our favorites. Thanks, as ALWAYS!!
Jeff
Thank you Jeff 🙂
Paul, you’ve made my week! Thanks for listening to our wishes. It’s awesome that you’re ripping them so FAST for us, what a treat. I love this tsunami of Swing Out Sister, and everyone of them ripped in Paulity, just amazing. I won’t mind getting more (rare) mixes of this great band, but tomorrow it’s Disco Friday of course…
You’re very, very welcome Stefano. I try to listen to what you guys want if I can do it 🙂
Hi Paul, there are a few other SOS mixes that didn’t appear outside the US, like for instance the Pop Stand Mix of ‘Surrender’ mixed by Justin Krauss. The US Mercury 33 rpm PRO 588-1 has that mix on the full A-side (therefore this pressing offers the best vinyl quality). The great Stuff Gun Mix is on the full B-side. Maybe you can continue this excellent and highly embraced SOS series next week? Many BTG’ers will share the same wish.
Hi Stefano I don’t have the promo but I do have the standard US 12″ which is mastered at 33 RPM. Aside from that the only other SOS single I have is “Fooled By A Smile” not sure if it’s UK or German it’s still sealed will have to check.
Hi Paul, such a shame the record label chose to put ‘Who’s To Blame’ first on that B-side (you can’t have it all). But 33 rpm certainly helps to retain the vinyl quality in the last minutes a bit more than at 45 rpm. Still, PRO 588-1 gives the best reproduction of this mix. Phonogram 12 inch releases from the UK or Germany were never ever factory sealed, so your copy of ‘Fooled By A Smile’ is probably a US or Canadian release (or the seller re-sealed the UK or German pressing and sold it as new and factory sealed).… Read more »
This one is on the Mercury label and is factory sealed. I have bought many singles from the UK and Germany over the years that were factory sealed.
You’ll have to wait and see about next week it’s Thanksgiving week and I already had other plans in mind but we’ll see.
No worries man! Just do as you planned 🙂 By the way: I am sincerely suprised you have bought many singles from the UK and Germany over the past years that were factory sealed! North European record companies didn’t factory seal their 12 inches at all (nor their albums), that’s my years of experience living in North Europe (born and raised in Amsterdam). And I always found that SO uncredible irritating, because without a seal the sleeves were easily bruised and you never were 100% sure if the record already had been played before (always wanted new, unplayed and untouched… Read more »
I don’t know maybe they are sealed for import to the US. Actually the record i am posting today is still in it’s original shrink wrap and it’s from Holland. It’s a mystery.
On the same note I have also bought many that were not sealed.
Hello Paul,
Another excellent job Paul. I will send you a donation once I’ve been payed.
By the way, I have the Swing Out Sister – Where in the World (Bongo Fury Mix) (UK 10″) which I will be sending you as well as Divine – I’m So Beautiful (12″) and Hard Magic (12″) to work your magic on as I know you like Divine.
Kind regards

Well, this just makes me happy.
This is the 12″ that I LOVE! Thank you! The 12″ Remix is insanely good and Paul, your rip, is absolutely immaculate. The 12″ singles from SOS’s first album always struck a chord with me. This single in particular shows a really strong “extended version” that was so great in the late 80s. Bananarama’s 12″ mixes were also particularly good and never disappointed.
I will be cranking this as well as the other mixes from yesterday’s post. I am on cloud 9 right now. Thank you Paul. You are a master.
You are so very welcome MusicMan3. Play it loud!
Of all the bands I would’ve thought people would’ve gone ‘pffft’ over, it’s SOS.
I’m amazed and amused at the love and wealth of comments made this week – had no idea they’d made it big in the US, though does maybe explain their US only tour this year.
😀
Thanks DJPaul.
you’re welcome Jermajesty. I am loving all of the comments wish it could be this way for every post 🙂 I had no idea SOS had this following. Glad I had these to post.
This sounds crazy, but I used to play the instrumental version pitched up to 124 bpm, and it would pack the floor! Thank you for the Swing Out Sister posts 🙂
Sounds interesting and fun Gianni 🙂
This is the one – my favourite Swing Out Sister mix! Thanks so much for these.
You’re welcome Vermillion 🙂
Thank you so much again!
you’re very welcome Venus De Milo 🙂
Thanks so much Paul! this is the third of a string of Swing out Sister singles…
Dear god, this band is so great!!! =)
You’re welcome Julio 🙂
More versions of this classic! Excellent!
Thanks Paul!
You’re welcome Diego 🙂
