Stevie Wonder – Go Home (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“Go Home” is a 1985 hit single performed by Stevie Wonder. The song showcased the narrator’s plea to a young woman to go home, though the girl tries to get the narrator to stay with her. In the U.S., the song peaked at #2 on the R&B chart and #10 on the Hot 100 and, to date, is Wonder’s last song to reach the U.S. top ten on the Hot 100. “Go Home” also topped both the dance chart and the Adult Contemporary chart.

Stevie performed this song as early as the 7 May 1983 episode of Saturday Night Live and nearly two years later at the 1985 Grammy Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles, California, in the famous synthesizer jam with other contemporaries Howard Jones, Herbie Hancock, and Thomas Dolby. Like “Part-Time Lover”, the song was released with a special 12″ version.

A TECHNICAL NOTE:

I am always trying new things to get the best sound out of my equipment so I purchased a Sovtek 12AX7LPS Vacuum Tube for my Bellari VP130 phono preamp. I have heard good things about pairing this tube with the Bellari phono preamp like a difference in the sound stage and transparency. I have been using the Tung-Sol 12AX7ECC803-S Gold Electron Tube, so it will be nice to see if there is any difference after the Sovtek is broken in. This is the first post using this new Sovtek tube.

Very thanx for this (and many more) rips from vinyl.

I search the rip from the US 12” Promotion “Go Home” von Stevie Wonder. Only on this record release the Radio Edit of 12” Vocal. I own them though. Can not play it at the moment.

Being the legend that he is, I’m pretty baffled with this song and 12″. For Mr. Wonder’s standards just an average song. Well, it’s a nice arrangement for the Re-Mix, but where’s the kick drum? Also, everything else sounds so thin! It’s 1985, I expected some heavy r&b or funk drums and percussion, huge horns and big synth riffs! Well, everything’s there but sounds so tiny!!!! Shame. After reading all your comments I cranked up my sound system, nope still sounds tiny 🙁 Just compare it to Stevie Wonder – Part Time Lover (Extended Version) from the same year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYEkz9ApqsE… Read more »

Another week of fantastic posts Paul. Stevie Wonder has so much talent and has worked with the best. You have an amazing collection of vinyl, and now a few more shops are re-opening in town with vintage and new record releases, you cannot beat the warmth of the sound, compared to CD. Have you got T. Rex ‎– Children Of The Revolution 12″ (Tony Visconti ’87 Remix). There is also T Rex Get It On 12″ (Tony Visconti 87 Remix). Tony Visconti (a great producer) as well as working with Marc Bolan has also worked many times with David Bowie.… Read more »

Wow Paul, I am a pretty decent Stevie Wonder fan, have most of his extended version in vinyl and CDs but I have no knowledge of this 12 inch single. Now, I have to hunt this twelve inch down. Thanks

Thanks Paul. I prefer the single “Part time lover” from the same album but this remix is really hot. About your new equipment, for me your rips are already close to perfection so I think it will be difficult to get better.

Thanks, Paul! It’s amazing that this song is NEVER, EVER on any flashback radio shows or compilation cds. I loved this song back in the day and always loved when the radio played this long remix (probably their bathroom break). It was often on the radio in CT and always on the Saturday night club radio broadcasts.

Thanks again!

I found this an interesting post because I can’t believe it was the last top ten record Stevie released on the Hot 100 chart! Never heard this mix before so I am really elated by it. I can’t wait to check out to see how the sound and rip is affected by your new equipment. I don’t feel like I’m this hardcore audiophile like some of your readers, because, like Song_And_Dance, I feel that all your rips are superb. You work wonders Paul on music. It’s all so overwhelmingly…..AWESOME!!!!

Gosh Paul, you know me so well!! I love this so very, very much. The vibe is so great and the special F/X and the structure….EVERYTHING!! This is an incredible 12-inch. Stevie really brings out all the best and keeps things lively. The horns and wild tidbits really make me smile. It’s Stevie Wonder(ful)!!! And Mr. Wonder is such a class act and a marvelous human being too. I read this on CNN and wanted to share it: “(CNN)Legendary musician Stevie Wonder took both knees at a New York music festival, seemingly showing solidarity with NFL players criticized by President… Read more »

Hey Paul Astonishingly, I have no recollection of this song at all. It did not chart over here although its predecessor Part Time Lover was a big hit here (no 12, in the charts for 17 weeks). I must admit I let Stevie´s music in my heart very very late and only started buying his earlier records as of Part Time Lover. Can´t believe it myself. Such a genius. I LOVE his live BluRay from a few years back. Thank you for this gem which is actually a new song to me 🙂 As for your technical approach: I can´t… Read more »
