Burning The Ground Exclusive 1987
“The Passenger” is a song written by Iggy Pop and Ricky Gardiner, recorded and originally released by Iggy Pop on the Lust for Life album in 1977.
English rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees covered “The Passenger” in 1987 for their all-cover-versions album Through the Looking Glass. The group revamped the song by adding brass arrangements. Released as the second single from that album, it peaked at number 41 in the UK singles chart.
Iggy Pop praised their version and stated: “That’s good. She sings it well and she threw a little note in when she sings it, that I wish I had thought of, it’s kind of improved. The horn thing is good.”
The song was featured at the end of Tonya Harding’s biographical film I, Tonya (2017).

hi pault thanks you so much great post please more siouxsie exemple this weel on fire 12 vinyl thanks again for all
I’m curious to listen to this. I’ve never really listened to Siouxsie & the Banshees so I don’t have any expectations. I’ve been curious about them, but I’ve never gotten around to checking them out. I don’t really know how I missed them; I was listening to a LOT of music in the second half of the ’80s as I walked around campus for my classes at the University of Texas. Time to check them out!
I sort of missed them too Davis but now later on I really like their output. I hope you end up liking this one 🙂
Great band. I love their cover version of Dear Prudence too.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome, Mark 🙂
Fantastic. Very Thanks, Paul. Excuse me, no speak very english.
Muchas gracias Paul. Esta es una increíble y maravillosa versión de The Passenger de Iggy Pop.
Gracias por alegrarme a mi y a muchas personas el día y por aportar felicidad.
Un abrazo desde España.
Ge Nada JOSÉ 🙂
Thank’s Paul.
Given that this is one of Iggy’s most iconic songs, it’s great that Siouxie & the Banshees really do it justice and don’t disappoint.
You’re welcome, Greg M. 🙂
Siouxsie! Wow! Absolutely awesome! SatB are one of my favourite bands of all time.
Her solo remixes are pretty wild too!
Great post Paul,
Siouxsie and the Banshees did a fantastic cover of Iggy Pop and Ricky Gardiner’s The Passenger.
The original from the 1977 album Lust for Life featured David Bowie on piano, organ and backing vocals and when they released the 7″ vinyl of Success , The Passenger was the B-side.
18 years later Duran Duran covered Success on the Thank You album.
I’m really enjoying the new Duran Duran track “Give It All Up”.
I heard the new Duran track this morning I like it looking forward to the album. 🙂
Many thanks !! awesome share!
You’re welcome 🙂
Everyday is a musical celebration here on BTG, but I always love what you post for Fridays because usually, for most of us, it’s the weekend. I love weekends. I then take what you’ve generously gave us in music to make a compilation of the week’s records. I adore this music. Love that you’ve done Siouxsie because I’m so getting into her more and more. Thanks Paul for another pristine rip!
Hope you and the community here have a marvelous weekend!!
Jeff
Thank you, Jeff. I am just now discovering more about the band and their contribution to the 80s. Have a great weekend 🙂
