Here’s a fan video I found (not the best lighting) She lip syncs to the track in a club somewhere

Not sure how I missed this one, and seriously doubt it actually sold 5 million copies worldwide and hasn’t been on a bunch of disco compilations by now. Martika calls it a “club classic”, and even she and AHorn doubt its self-professed sales numbers. Just sayin’…
Great song, but “the track became number 1 in the dance scene nearly all over the world, mostly in the USA, UK, Mexico, and Japan. In Japan, it was no 1 in the pop charts before Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Pet Shop Boys”? That’s not even quite English and it sure didn’t chart in the US.
Always have liked this slice of Italian Disco… Thanks !
Hey Paul – I still have an old reel (I used to record some of my mixes) where I had this track sandwiched between Fun Fun’s “Baila Bolero” and Tiger Moon’s “Something Tells Me”. One of my favourite Italodisco/Hi-NRG records. Thanks for posting.
You’re welcome. That sounds cool. 🙂
wow. thank you. I love italo disco.
You’re welcome 🙂
I’ve known this song for a long time. But the fact that more than 5 million records have been sold worldwide is very surprising to me. Thank you very much every time for your great informations.
You’re welcome 🙂
The moment I saw the song title, I immediately thought of Bobby Orlando. Now, that “I Cry for You” should’ve been #1 on all dance charts around the world.
Seems not so shy to me! 😉
I am really interested in checking out this 12-inch, Paul. It sounds like something I’m really going to like. I see that this is considered “Italo-Disco” which is a genre I like. We sure like to label and categorize things, don’t we? I even checked out Wikipedia to help me understand this style of music. Whatever one might call it though, it’s fun and electronic based.
Thank you, Paul for another introduction!
Jeff
It’s a really good and energetic “upgrade” of the similar song by The Twins: “Face to Face”. Even though the main hook is, let’s say “borrowed”, I love the energy and I’m glad I finally have a decent copy of this club classic! THANK YOU, PAUL!!!
However, I seriously doubt the claim that the record sold 5 million copies … lol … that would rank it amongst the greatest singles of all time.
Thanks, Martika, for your comment. I know The Twins, but I’ll need to check out “Face To Face.” I hear so much that sometimes I forget the classics.
Jeff
I love this record it is such a summer song. I hope you like it.
Thanks for sharing that 80s Italo disco sound which is legendary and always make me feel like I am back in Italy on the San Remo waterfront a breezy summer night with all my friends having a fabulous time dancing under the stars.
I remember when this record was released the Record Pools were really pushing it to the DJ’s it was always a floor-filler. On the rear sleeve Shy Rose thanks KU Club Ibiza for crowning her Disco Queen. 🙂
