NEW 2023 Transfer!
NEW Meticulous Audio Restoration!

Originally posted March 13, 2013

“Telefone (Long Distance Love Affair)” is a song by Scottish singer Sheena Easton, the first single released from her fourth album, 1983’s Best Kept Secret. In November 1984, Easton added “Telefono” to her Spanish album Todo Me Recuerda a Ti for the Latin markets. The song was nominated for a Grammy in 1983 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

The song was most successful in the United States, where it became Easton’s fourth top 10 hit, peaking at number nine for two weeks in October and November 1983. The song was less successful in Easton’s native United Kingdom where it reached number 84.

The music video, shot in black and white, featured Easton in a haunted house and a cemetery, being pursued by Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, and the Hunchback of Notre Dame before being rescued by King Kong.

Although “Telefone” was released internationally as a single the North and South American markets were the only territories were a 12″ single was released.

Thank you very much for this, the sound is fantastic! It’s better than the remastered versions on the EMI Singles release, so much richer and more enjoyable to listen to, amazing! I love the mention of Laura Branigan’s Gloria here, there are notes in the Madness Money and Music reissue about Sheena appreciating the song and style, leading to Greg Mathieson producing her change in direction to something less AC and more pop. I’m a big Branigan fan and love seeing her music still resonate with people. Thank you for this transfer and all you do for throughout the year,… Read more »

I’ve always loved this song. I remember listening to Casey Kasem’s Top 40 every week and rooting for this one in particular to hit #1 back in the day. It’s pretty much been forgotten when it comes to 80s nostalgia being played on radio stations nowadays, which is unfortunate. Thanks, Paul!

Sheena Easton, Pat Benatar are two real icons of the 80´s. I collect music on vinyl since 45 years as a child of the 80´s. Adorable women with a lot of killer tunes. USA & UK had a massive impact in the 80´s music. All genres of music were perfectly delivered. Wish you all a nice X-mas 2023. Stay pretty – stay Goth or what you prefer…..cheers from Vienna / Austria PS: It´s good to know so many people out there which enjoy 2023 the 80´s.

This song reminds me so much of high school. I had the album and the 12″ single and I put both on a cassette so I could listen to it in my first car. I played that cassette hundreds of times! Thank you for the new transfer!

A forgotten ’80s hit I haven’t heard in years! I normally don’t link mono live performances when there is a studio version, but she & her killer band knock this out of the ballpark live with no autotune or backing track for thousands of Chilean fans en Español at el Show del Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar 1984:

I always loved this song! Thanks for your new transfer, I think I missed it the first time around. Great video too! Reminds me of HL & The News’ Doing It All For My Baby video. Have a great weekend Paul, Jeff, Martika and everyone else decking their halls with lots of holly!

So many times, when you post something, Paul, I feel like a little kid!! I am grinning like a Cheshire Cat because I love this song!! Sheena Easton was a big favorite of mine growing up and although I love her Prince produced songs, there’s something about her previous records that make me feel good all over!! THANK YOU, Paul for bringing this one back!! And I love the video clip too. Sort of reminds me of Yazoo’s “Don’t Go” music video!! Mad love for these monstrous visuals! I hope you have a fantastic weekend, Paul!! And to all of… Read more »
