NEW 2020 Transfer!
Meticulously Remastered!

Originally posted: January 16, 2014

“Baby Love” is a 1986 crossover hit single by Brooklyn-born singer Regina Richards. The single hit number one on the dance charts for two weeks in mid-1986. The single also crossed over to the pop singles chart, where it peaked at #10 and also made the Top 30 on the Soul Singles chart. “Baby Love” would be her only single to chart on both the Pop and Soul Singles chart.

The song was written by Regina with Steve Bray, who had written several hits for Madonna. It was intended for Madonna, with Regina deciding to record the song herself when Madonna declined. With Bray’s production, it sounded similar to Madonna’s own recordings and was sometimes mistaken for one. The song also includes backing vocals by R&B singer Sediah Garrett and Saxophone by David Sanborn .

The first released version of the song was by Dutch girl group The Star Sisters, who released it on their 1985 album Danger.

Thanks Dj Paul, today somebody shared by Facebook a couple minutes of this song, I recognized the melody and immediately gave myself the task of looking for it, I hadn’t listened to it for years, excellent song, it brought back fond memories of a time of youth, fortunately I found it among the tracks you share, thank you very much for sharing these gems with us (P.S. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a copy to 24b, but thanks from the bottom of my heart)[Sorry traslate using Google]

Madonna, not to be outdone, or turn into used bubblegum had to grow up and write about actually having a baby. This is good song, but it was also a wise choice that she did not record this song as a single for True Blue. However, It would have been excellent on Like A Virgin or a great b-side.

Thanks for uploading this one! I bought this 12″ single when it came out, after hearing it on the radio. I knew it wasn’t Madonna but it sounded so much like a Madonna song! It wasn’t until much later that I learned it had been written for Madonna. It doesn’t matter that she didn’t record it, though, because Regina’s version is awesome.

This vinyl transfer is awesome, Paul. I have this track on a CD from 2007 which is badly overcompressed… horrible. Now I’ll keep your version which is a pleasure to listen to. Thank you so much for your dedication and love for music.

I have so many nice memories of this song Paul. Madonna, Regina and my personal favorite, Alisha bring me back to the happy days of my youth. Thank you Paul for your “re-mastered” “re-rip” of this classic vinyl.
